My boss comes in my office so I hide my posting. I got a 8% raise because they think I actually work

It isn't a lot of money and I don't need it so will add it to my taxable investments. I stopped saving for retirement so am adding to taxable investments with leftover money.
Since I am really done saving I might start spending more on myself. I have around 2,500 a month more than I need and have started spending more on charity this year.
I am buying diapers and things for the local food bank. My nephew is buying diapers for the family resource center in his town. With prices so high the poor people can use a hand with expenses.

That's great Crone! Kudos (and karma) to you. Just curious, why have you stopped saving for retirement? I know you are thinking about retiring in the next few years. Not challenging you at all, trying to learn / understand.

I have enough saved already. I saved 566K so far when I needed 500K and I have two years to work. So far this year I put 6K in to the ROTH and 5K into the 401K. I don't want to pay more taxes after retirement so don't want the 401K to get too big it is taxed at full rates. Saving in taxable accounts will mostly be long term gains and dividends.
I might put another 5K in the 401K later this year and maybe 10K next year and the ROTH will be another 6K. Then in 2013 I will only put 6K in the ROTH and retire in the spring so don't need more 401K.
So if I save say 50K over the next two years it can mostly it in taxable investments or I can save 40K and spend some on myself.

That makes perfect sense. Have you "dialed down" your risk?
I think it is very generous and community minded of you to be donating to your local food bank.

Bosses don't usually just throw sizable raises at internet surfers. I am sure you bring quite a bit of value to the company, so you are being rewarded. Congrats for your raise, your value to your employer...and your humility.

Awesome crone! I gave you karma. Now you have 666 posts and 55 karma. You may want to make another post to get rid of the first number. ;D

Actually I have been doing more work lately. One employee is pretty worthless now, she is having little strokes or suiesures and can't keep track of what she is doing. I offered to help her so have been taking her work and doing it while doing mine and never complaining. I thrive on stress and was kinda bored doing just my job. So I learned her job, wrote up instructions on how to do it, and changed many proceedures that have been in place forever that were not working as well as they could. I helped interview the replacements and trained the payroll clerk to do the job that needed help. Last week we hired a new woman and I am training her.
The past few months I have been basicly doing two jobs while on salary so sometimes working much later than anyone else. I do take short posting breaks at work but usually am just thinking about what to tackle next. My boss and his boss have been thanking me for stepping up and doing the extra work. I didn't ask for a raise but did tell them the payroll clerk needed a raise. I tell them she has been with us about 9 months and no raise and worth much more than we are paying her. So today I was giving a raise and so was she but she got 3.5% and I got 8%. I called her to my office so we could tell her together it was fun. I told my boss when we do a review we are supposed to say something mean too like you got a raise but we want you to improve something. But he said she was perfect so nothing to improve. We don't do reviews we are just randomly given raises not annual or anything but I wanted her to get one so asked for her.
I am kind of semi management, I tell people what to do and they do it but I am not their boss. One tried not to do what I wanted once but the boss told her that when I asked her to do something she should do her very best to do it. Mostly I just tell them what I want and they do it because I am right about what needs done and how it should be done and the boss prefers not to deal with everybody. I told the new woman I am easy to get along with as long as I get my own way and so far she has done whatever I asked her to.

"I am easy to get along with as long as I get my own way" LOL, so am I! Congrats on both your raise and exceeding your retirement goal. Personally a think a certain amount of posting can be healthy. As you point out, it can relieve the tedium of some dull tasks but I also think the problem solving process helps sharpen the brain.

No she hasn't said anything but maybe she will go to school and not say anything until she is ready. I am still pleased with her and she got a raise because I told the boss she should get one. Only she and I got raises but they will be reviewing other wages soon they just gave us ours sooner. Now we got a new woman last Friday who seems to be working out great. I am doing her training with the system overload method. In 4 days she has learned receptionist, payroll entry, payroll processing, and two kinds of purchasing batch processes. Nobody can possibly learn so much so quick but she keeps going and hasn't snapped yet. I need her to learn purchasing soon but once she does she won't have time to learn payroll so I am teaching her to do it all her first week
