Now I can go and not only spend all my money before retiring, but I can also run credit cards or other debts... because no one can touch my Federal benefits.
Except for uncle sam that is.

I actually think it's a good thing too.
Except govt can still put a freeze on and garnish the account.

But no worries Carl -- you and won't get any Social Security payments to be 'protected'! I believe I will... Hear me out: while I am not planning on it, as long as people that are close to retirement or already retired continue to be the major voters they will be social security. Maybe by the time I get there I won't get much (means tested) but I am sure it will still be around. Politicians will find a way to keep it alive and well!

Yeah I don't think anyone would dare touch social security......ever. There simply are and will be in the foreseeable future too many poor people in this country.

actually it just got re-emphasized, at least on the part of the people doing the lending who should have responsibility for due diligence on their part before blindly granting credit
