Everything.
Never cheap.
Always try to buy the appropriate value for the situation.
If it's going to get heavy use or I'm going to have it a long time, I'll go for the quality. Quality almost always works better, is easier to use, fits better, and will probably last your lifetime. Need it for a one time use? Get something that doesn't cost too much.
Custom made racing bicycle, even though a production model was a couple of hundred bucks cheaper. You just can't beat (literally) something built for exactly the purpose you will use it and so it fits perfectly. (Different types of bike racing call for bikes with slightly different designs to get the best performance. After 100 miles, the difference between first and second is frequently a matter of inches. The best equipment may give you the inches.)
Inexpensive die grinder (I think $8) manufactured in China that will get a total of 30 minutes use during my lifetime.

It's a family rule that poptarts of any kind are not allowed in our house! I love that rule, too! I would add that we will never- and I mean NEVER- send out the holiday newsletter photo thingy where we put on christmas sweaters, place antlers on the dog, and write four pages about the teeth my son lost this year, the cruise we went on, and a bunch of other boring personal stuff nobody cares about and nobody wants to read...

Thank you. I just HATE those letters. From people you never hear from except once a year when they write their annual BRAG letter. Never buy generic toilet paper.

Laundry detergent. I've tried generics but DD has ecezma and I have skin issues too, no matter how much the generics "claim" to be like the name brands that work for us she always ends up breaking out in a rash, there is something in the generics that just isn't in the name brands. Right now we are using Downy Free and Sensitive which seems to work for both of us. I have no intentions of switching any time soon because it's taken more time than I like to find a product that works. No way I want to spend more time just to save a few pennies. Same with soaps and lotions. I hear all the time abotu the good deal on Alidi's products but unless I can match a brand name I stay away from them. A few cents in savings isn't worth the rash. For me I do not cheap out on razors or feminine products. I don't buy the most expensive razors but I don't buy the 2/$1 packages either. You get what you pay for.

I really wouldn't worry about those RX ads. Its a machine that does it all anyway. I had my eyes done 14 years ago and the eye doctor was worth every cent byut he did a lot of work. DD had hers done a year and a half ago. One hundred dollars less and the machine did it all.

I never skimp on bicycles, bicycle parts or clothing. Road bike - Carbon and Dura Ace; MTB, Carbon and XTR. Full Castelli on clothing.
