If those cubs are Mountain Lion cubs ...they have spots. The adult mountain lions have no spots unlike the adult snow leopards. Details...Details

You keep on believing that. ...even after TD shows up in costume informing you that you can call him "Winter Moon" and pet his tail if you want to. Umm, he's been trying to get me to pet his "tail" for quite a while now...

Mountain lions are beautiful, stoic creatures. I'm thankful that their numbers are holding up and that measures to preserve their habitat seem to be working. I hope so too. I thank God for people who take the time and effort to protect such magnificent creatures. They are truly special people.

Protecting all living things on this planet is important.
I saw some land where a bunch of trees were cut down... then I wondered was there ever a time on earth a loooooong time ago, where perhaps most if not all earth was covered by trees.
Trees gives us oxygen.

<<Trees gives us oxygen.>>
They also give us carbon dioxide when the photosynthesis process is reversed during darkness, or didn't they teach you that in Basic A & P, as they did me?

I like the oxygen part better that plants give us....seems more important. I did not take AP Bio... I had 3 yrs of High School then entered college in the early decision/acceptance program at 16 y/o.

A woman near here was out jogging and killed by a mountain lion several years ago, it was big local news. It was found and killed, but her cub was rescued and now lives in the Folsom Zoo. There has been such an upswing in mountain lion attacks and incursions (one was caught on the CSUS campus, right in the middle of Sacramento) here that there is serious consideration being given to reopening a hunting season on them.

AP In my region stood for Advanced Placement and not Anatomy and Physiology.
Clarification given.

Look at Reply #130, it is not modified. I said A & P, not AP.

I thought most trees didn't undergo cellular respiration. ETA: ...or rather, I thought the "kind" of respiration trees did didn't produce CO 2. ETA (x2): Every resource I can find says that trees put out CO 2 at night too. But I'm almost certain that's not what I was taught in highschool.

As I recall...
How plants and animals co-exist
Animals like humans use oxygen and give off CO2
Plants use our CO2 and give off oxygen.

Look at the wisdom and majesty seated in their eyes. You're honestly comparing that with the uncian death gaze? You denialists are too much.

There's no denying that, Deb.
Still, we need to distinguish between the predatory diligence in cougars' eyes and the cold, psychopathic indifference in uncian eyes. The differences are subtle but perceptible.
A starving cougar will kill you for food. A snow leopard will kill you for the perverse thrill of watching you suffer. Always remember that.

<<A starving cougar will kill you for food.>>
The aforementioned cougar did not kill the woman jogger for food, as she did not feed on the body. Like any cat (especially female), she killed for pleasure.
Just an interesting sideline into human nature - donations to the rescued cub brought in many times the donations to the children of the woman the cougar had killed. Go figure.

The cougar had a cub, and she was protecting her baby (not that the woman was trying to hurt the cub, but the cougar did not know that). They had to place her cub in a sanctuary to raise it after the cougar was killed. It's all horrible in every way - for all of them and their families.

Nobody will ever know what prompted the attack, whether it was defensive or just a predator response. I've seen the now grown cub at the Folsom zoo. It was so spooky - a mother was there with her little girl, maybe four years old. When they walked by the cougar enclosure, this particular one locked onto the little girl and began a predatory stalk as she walked by. No danger of course, but it sure was eerie.

Ffft. So it stalked her. The female snow leopard clicks her teeth as children walk by. Slowly. Patiently. Click click click. (Your crimson blood...)
Click click click. (Your putrid blood...)
Click click click. (...filling my belly.)
Click click click. (Your screaming throat...)
Click click click. (...clasped in my jaws.)

Not a very good tactic for a stealth hunter ;D
PS - The same zoo has signs up on the tiger enclosure to not let kids get too close because it gets them too excited.

Well, a lot of Virgil's colorful descriptions of the snow leopards have a touch of "Cujo" to them.
