In KY, you pay a school tax on everything. Every single utility bill, from my cell phone to my electric bill has a school tax on it. Hell, my paycheck also has a school tax on it - which amounts to almost $1000/year. Even about 60% of my car registration last year (about $120) was pigeon-holed for school tax. So apparently now second graders can have a better learning experience by drawing pentagons with their iPads. Granted, the first batch of 70 iPads was paid for by a grant, but the principal is now looking at how to acquire enough for the rest of the school. www.kentucky.com/2011/04/19/1712001/ipads-enhance-learning-in-some.html

Never in our country's history have we done so little with so much as we have with our educational system. It's a monumental money pit failure.

Kentucky- the state where "education pays" Isn't that what's on your state billboard? It's been a couple of years but I could swear that what I used to see when I'd have to drive to Perris TN to see the in laws.

My son's K-2nd grade school doens't have IPads but they do have IPods. They have disabled most of the games on them and only have a few reading games. They can get a 30 minute pass to play on one if they do somehting good to earn it. It can be getting a 100 on a chapter test or helping a classmate type thing. I don't know if it is helping with their reading but it sure is making kids try and win a pass.
