We filed awhile ago so I had to look it up... thanks for letting me relive the numbers *ouch*
Fed- $38,973 State 1- $3,327 State 2- $499 State 3- $5,601 City- $460 Total= $48,860
We moved to another state this year and also have the live in 1 state and work in another scenario which makes tax time "fun".
And yes, I think we pay more than our "fair" share.

4406.00 in federal 0.00 in state
This year worked out better than any other year because my income was not taxable, neither was most of DH's. Typically we pay 2-3 times that amount in federal, and some years we owed three different states several thousand depending on if we moved and if I was working etc. DH changed his home of record to Oklahoma when we moved there and found out they were going to stop taxing military pay in 2010. It cost us some money the year we made the switch, but now it is working out beautifully.

$35,161 to the Feds. Our loss carry-forwards are gone so next year's gonna be worse.

From your numbers it appears you make over $250k, so according to Obama, apparently not!

32,400 Fed and State.
Next year will be brutal as we'll only have the standard deduction, but not as bad as some others on here it seems.

There was a headline on Yahoo today that read something like "Why don't Californians pay enough tax?"
I really, really wanted to kick the author of that headline in the 'nards.

I think the current income tax system is a screwed up mess that is full of loopholes and we should go to a straight national sales tax instead. I'm not much of a consumer though, so I'd probably still be doing ok. I think you are right, a national sales tax like the Fairtax would be far better than the monstrous tax code we have now. And if you are frugal you pay little or no federal taxes.

I paid a total of $13,624.20 in payroll taxes for 2010 out of a salary of $103,855.18 for a 13.12% effective tax rate.
However, that's lumping all payroll taxes together. The numbers look a bit different if you break them up some.
Fed = $10,597.76 (10.2%) State = $3,026.44 (2.91%)
Still looks like I'm paying my fair share to me, however, this is still lumping all Fed taxes together.
Fed Income = $3,444.90 (3.32%) Fed Med = $1,355.64 (1.31%) Fed OASDI = $5,797.22 (5.58%)
So, depending on how you look at the numbers I paid under 3.5% in income taxes on a six figure salary.

I'd post mine, but it'd just make some of you mad-- especially if I gave you my gross number.
