I read this over the weekend and laughed. Why does Biden have these kooks around him. He must be senile. The administration "idea" under Biden is to reduce global warming by blocking the sun! "According to Mail Online, the White House, under US President Joe Biden's administration, is considering a plan to limit global warming. Although this plan might be optimistic in nature, scientists warn of side effects from altering atmospheric chemical makeup".
Hmmm...what possibly could go wrong?? I know, lets ask the dinosaurs about how all that huge meteor dust that blocked the sun worked for them? What about the solar power. Will it kill the solar industry?? What about the fish and the plankton? I know they don't have a plan right now but Shuchi Talati, the Alliance for Justice Deliberation on Solar Geoengineering executive director, says the report shows how the US government supports well-governed research. I hope its not with taxpayers money. Let private industry fund any research.
This reminds me of a old Simpsons episode.

Congress required the Executive Branch to do this report: This Research Plan was prepared in response to a requirement in the joint explanatory statement accompanying Division B of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022, directing the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), with support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), to provide a research plan for “solar and other rapid climate interventions.” The Congressional directive also requests that OSTP develop a “research governance framework to provide guidance on transparency, engagement, and risk management for publicly funded work in solar geoengineering research.” (reached through a link in the article in the OP White House]

So you're saying that Biden effectively had nothing to do with the origins of this report? That the research was mandated by Congress? Gee, that kind of kills the political digs by the OP, doesn't it? Wonder if he'll notice...?

Yes, indeed. But that info does reinforce my feeling that the congress spends way too much money on BS research which should be done solely by private industry. No tax payer money.

Maybe an indication that reading to discover details might be prudent BEFORE you post your assumptions.... Just a thought....

Keep it on file. When I become famous and die you can sell this thread on Antiques Roadshow.

Doubt it. They'll rightly declare it a cheap replica of a thread. Worthless.

see?
the fact that this is a nothing burger is immaterial. it is getting traction SOMEWHERE, or it would not be posted here. and the fact that it is not factual is also probably important, in that it gets us discussing things that are not factual, which absorbs bandwidth for factual things.
Orwell would be proud of how prescient he was, and how foolish and illiterate we are.

And not one noted for rigorous examination, at that. And yes, that poster got it from somewhere, but most of the spin is his.

And yes, that poster got it from somewhere, but most of the spin is his. i went to the original article, and read a bit of it. i think what conservatives either don't get about liberals, or don't give us much credit for, is that we CONSIDER many things. we might, in due course of time, determine that the idea considered is as an example far too risky, costly, etc. but what we have generally discovered is that if we don't hem in our thinking, we come up with incredibly novel ideas that can sometimes change the world in a really good way. of course, we rarely get credit for it. and we even more rarely take it. to our fault. meanwhile, we have a grandstanding hedonistic buffoon with something resembling a fifth grade understanding of the world claiming he is responsible for everything, even a bunch of stuff that doesn't exist- and giving nobody else ANY credit for it, and that is perfectly fine. and in this asymmetrical environment of deserved and undeserved praise, i am having a crisis of language.

I knew it was you as soon as I read the thread title. Republicans deny climate change and all efforts to mitigate it, even as they're bursting into flames. In any case, that's not what the article says. Reading comprehension problem? There's help out there.
