My OP accidentally got erased before I needed to leave, so here's the interesting paragraph I intended to post as well. The report also found that California's homeless population is aging ā 47% are 50 years old or older, the study found. Black, Latino, and Native American people are significantly overrepresented among the state's homeless.
So unaffordable rents and mortgage rates are taking their toll. I know I'd be able to afford a cheap car now if my rent had only increased normal amounts the last couple years.

I have read a few articles recently about San Diego making it illegal to camp there. Saying it's not a 'sheet hole'. However, if I remember correctly, camping meant between 8am and 8pm you can't have any of your stuff on city streets or sidewalks and had to be a certain distance away from schools and parks, all the time, as long as there's shelter space available.
They're using safety and public access as the main reasons for passing the law.
I read a lot of the comments, to see if there were any good ideas for dealing with all the homeless people. There wasn't. And before long, they were just political bashing. š

In the UK, Prince William is starting a campaign to end homelessness. If successful maybe we can copy? But unlikely with the challenges to efforts already tried here in the US Iām thinking of Billie Boggs in NY. Mentally ill woman who lived on the streets. Her family tried to get her into mental hospital for care but she kept leaving. The ACLU took her case. Her right to live as she wanted - homeless and not taking meds. NY and probably other states still having to deal with this despite the many mentally ill people in the subways and streets. Most just leading miserable desperate lives but some hurting others like pushing people onto subway tracks. In and quickly out of jail or hospitals. Most of the mental care facilities have been closed and few places remain Very sad
