I put off X-mas shopping again this year. Now it looks like I won't be buying anything. I'm hacking constantly, my sense of smell is shot, and everything tastes a bit off. The rapid test was negative, but it's five months past its expiration date and I had trouble sticking the swab far enough up my nose.
So it looks like I'm going to be spending tomorrow shopping for a PCR test. I need to get one because my partner had plans to visit his 83-year old father who has recently had chemo. I have no idea what it may cost me but I just have to do it.
My interest in buying anything online, or stuffing the stockings of my coworkers with chocolate or beeswax lip balm has completely evaporated. None of that stuff matters next to making sure that I don't infect them or cause them to infect someone else. It's not even about money. It's about time. I need to spend the time that I have left before Christmas being a killjoy because I don't want to kill someone.
Hope you feel better soon. Thank-you. It's the pits knowing that the best thing that I can do for anyone else is to skip the gifts and the togetherness and force others that I've been around recently to do the same. I'd much prefer to be distributing little tins of pecan or walnut sandies.

Absolutely nothing. The only one I buy for these days is TD, and we are going to be on the cruise. That’s gift enough.
I did get some Pure Fiji bath products while in Fiji, I’ll gift some to my sister.

I am almost done. I want to go to 5 Below for some stocking stuffers and they have make-up kits. Abby wants one real bad. It'll keep her out of mine and Gwen's so win win. Then I need to order the hoodie for Bob from Hot Topic and hopefully it arrives on time. Debating on if it is still available getting the little $5 Hershey's Hot Chocolate machine at 5 below. I thought it might be cute Christmas Eve to do a hot chocolate bar. My grandmother used to monopolize Christmas Eve and that's not happening. We had just start doing it at my parents' house a couple years ago and I am not sure how we're going to do it this year if we'll do Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or both because I doubt my dad wants to be alone with his thoughts either day. I'd like to start something that is just ours so we aren't constantly associating the holiday with all the crap that has happened this year. Hot chocolate bar and new jammies seems perfect. I can get both at 5 Below for cheap.

And never mind on my brother's present that flew out the window. Neither online or in the one brick/mortar Hot Topic in the entire area have the dang hoodie. Then they didn't have my second choice either. So I went with a 3rd choice. He collects comics and they had a nice one with a Spiderman comic on the front. Then I had to order it today to ensure it gets here. That's what I get for not snatching up the first option the moment I saw it. You'd think I would know by now. It didn't occur to me that that would be so popular. It's sold out online and in store. Guess there are more DBZ fans then I thought out there.

Bought 7 yr DGD a ‘fancy’ dress. Pretty rose colored with a velvet top and satin mini pleated skirt. And white tights with iridescent various pastel colored little unicorns. I’m jealous!! Fun to have a girl after 4 boys!

If your dad, DH, and FIL are into football or some other sport, you could host a simple mini super bowl party and let them veg in front of the TV together. Might take some of the Christmas sting out of the day. Betting Gwen could help with food. Heck even just order Domino's or buy a few frozen apps and munch all day.

Great idea Chiver! We are too tied into these calendar days. Do it when you can! Plus January is so blah which makes it seem dumb that we shove so much into dec. DDIL's family are having Christmas a month late. Her Mom still works in a nursing home and her DSIL works in retail and they couldn't get together on the 25th. Her Dad died this past January 26 and they decided to be together for that. Mom is working in the nursing home Christmas and Christmas Eve so she won't be alone. I'll be up there over Christmas but I told them not to make a big deal of it.

Sigh. I mentioned these to BF and it turns out he already knows about them- not surprising, I said, since he's into electronic gadgets. He mentioned that he'd just ordered himself a lap counter and a stopwatch so he could better monitor his walks around the track at the fitness center. In the last month he's also gotten a portable air compressor to inflate tires and an electric blanket. He has an unspecified number of credit cards with an unspecified debt level and has said he's on track to pay a couple off completely in the next few months- but I wish he'd quit the spending on electronic toys. I need to keep telling myself: Not my circus. Not my monkeys. Closer to the OT- when I was in Europe in September he asked me to buy $500 worth of Pounds or Euros. I bought $500 worth of Pounds at $1.17. He had a few bad car expenses so hasn't been able to pay me for them, which is OK- he also insisted that I not give them to him, either. The Pound is now at $1.23. Good call! I'm giving him half of them for Christmas.

DD got a lot of clothes, she likes them. Could not find a real leather jacket here so got her a faux one. She has all kinds of coats and has a leather one she isn't crazy about. She wanted a new nintendo than we found out all she needed was a new cord so ordered her one. She has a few toys, yes toys, in there. And I found some lipgloss in a neat case. Son will get her gift cards to Starbucks, McD's and such. DIL will get her items like jewelry. And today I got her a new pair of shoes.
Got DIL a blouse and purse son said she wanted. And also a nice bag from Lands End as was the blouse. The bag is one of the canvas ones you can carry things in, like groceries. Hubs got son a welding helmet and some batteries for his power tools. I got him a coat and pepper grinder.
For grandson a titanic model that is 3 ft long, DIL said he will be crazy out it. It's supposed to be handmade, that was not cheap but he will take care of it. I made him a model one 2 years ago and he still had it, had only lost 1 or 2 of the blocks. Also 2 Lego sets for Minecraft. I sent a Christmas shirt too and a top. Got him an owl flashlight. I may buy him new shoes too, I like to get his shoes for him and coats.
Hubs is my big problem, got him a pair of leather gloves, a watch with stretch band, can hardly find them. Going to get him a leather belt and up there if I can find him a leather jacket. He had a suede one of my dads till he wore it out. Not sure of the size so want to get it there so we can exchange it if needed.
Son is going to pick me out a cheap computer to replace this one and set it up, that I will buy. And I told hubs I need a new phone, or headphones to hear TV or a watch. Any of that would be good.
But I told him drawing names or just buying for the kids is what we need to do. None of us really needs anything. Oh I'm also thinking of getting the kids a deck box. They don't have any storage other than their garage and it would help with hoses and garden tools and things like that. I am done Christmas shopping.

Do it when you can! Well, I tested negative for Covid on a rapid test and the flu swab also tested negative. In theory, I could be out and about doing the holiday thing.
But I feel like a piece of furniture that got shipped with a couple of extra pieces. I'm weak and wobbly and have no confidence in myself.
Also, the dog shredded my bad-hair-day hat while I was zonked out on generic Claretin.
I'm going into hibernation. I'm not leaving the house except for work and I'm old enough to know that I need to stay off Amazon while loopy. Wake me up on the third of January.

And I found a better hoodie at GameStop. Dang it. I decided that both hoodies come to the same amount I was going to spend on one so screw it I got them both.

My DF wanted a Garmin. Purchased it today. Not sure when it is going to arrive.
Give my nephews cash. They are 24, 21 and 18.
My siblings and I have not exchanged gifts for many years.

My sis and I still exchange gifts. I'm the 'black sheep' of the family, the poor one. They're all doctors and high-priced lawyers and executive directors of hospitals. I was a lowly nurse. They buy me things like computers, and I give them coloured samd. I used to feel bad about it, but I no longer do. It is what it is. I'm a senior living on a small pension.

They buy me things like computers, and I give them coloured sand. I used to feel bad about it, but I no longer do. It is what it is. I'm a senior living on a small pension. Speaking as someone with a lavish budget- it's the thought that counts with people like me. Truly. BF's first Christmas present to me was a transparent Lucite bird feeder that sticks on the window of my enclosed back porch with suction cups. I love it and I always keep it filled. And last year at Christmas at DS and DDIL's house, everyone was gifting everyone else but me. (I give the girls money, DS and DDIL get a Costco Executive membership and a large check, and I give them "experiences" throughout the year and I don't want them spending money on me.) DDIL's mother gave me a gift bag with some scented air freshener sticks with silk flowers that looked really nice in my bathroom and some mini-candy bars. Her husband had been informed that the treatment for his colon cancer wasn't working and we knew it would be his last Christmas- and she gave me a gift. Wow. It's those gestures that are more meaningful than the dollar amlount.

Bob got me a really thoughtful gift this year.
Ames has a tea shop so he got me a selection and he got me a book on herb gardening so I can really up my game.
Then he included another small book that tells me which said herbs may help with anxiety since it is looking like I may be one of the few who can't take any medications in that class.
DH was surprised but I told him Bob when he wants to can majorly surpass me in the thoughtful gift category. He pays attention like I do.
We get that from our mom.
I hope he likes the hoodies.

We found we were essentially exchanging gift cards. Easier to just not exchange gifts. That's what they do in BF's family and I think it's kind of silly but I stay quiet. I'm also noticing more discounts on gift cards, which I suppose encourages it. BF and his Ex have this weird passive-aggressive rivalry where his Ex gets pi*sed if the gift card he gives her is bigger than the one she gives him. Last year he upped the ante and gave her a $400 Target gift card. I've told him repeatedly that he doesn't need to show his undying affection for me by wrecking his budget. Fortunately he respects my wishes.

Did Christmas shopping for dad. Did most of it a 5 Below but then wandered into TJ Maxx next door.
I found a skin care set by that Mario guy brand Gwen likes and a cute air pod set for kids.
So I grabbed those for Gwen and Abby.
That'll make my dad the cool grandpa.😎
I think I did it for about $50 each not that I expect him to pay me back. I'm just impressed with myself.

Thanks for the reminder of 5 Below. I keep forgetting there's one in my area. Mayhaps I'll swing by this week.

The fossil dig kit cane in today. I think my nephew will love it it's something he has permission to whack with the included small wooden mallet and destroy it to get to the Dino skeleton.
Plus it's one and done no need to figure out where to store it.
I kinda want one for myself.

I'm waiting on the delivery of masks and scrubs from Lush that will complete 2 gift bags for friends. Maybe hit up a liquor store for a bottle of wine for one couple bag. That's it, I'm done. But I can't wait to hit up the January sales for ME!

I picked up a FoodSaver for DS#2's girlfriend. Today I found an AllClad 12 inch non stick chicken fryer with a lid for DS#2 at TJ Maxx.
My inkjet printer won't print in black anymore. I think the print head is permanently gummed up. After wasting money on new ink cartridges and trying to clean the print head, I went out and bought me a laser printer. We just can't keep an inkjet going in AZ. I have ruined two printers now because the head dries out from lack of use and low humidity.
Hopefully the laser printer is the next greatest thing. Especially, heading into tax season.

Especially, heading into tax season. I had a Dell laser that only printed in b/w that lasted for YEARS. I loved it. And you can get replacement cartridges on Amazon cheaper than you think. Of course, Alabama's humidity problem is the opposite of Arizona's. I made the mistake of asking my DIL was her sons' favorite candy bars were. Their stockings are empty except for some cookies I may get around to baking. They are a little old for them, but I wanted something more in them. Three of them wanted something called Sweet Tarts Ropes. I had never heard of them and figured they would be difficult to find. Everyone has them. The oldest loves tootsie rolls. They are out everywhere! I finally found a bag for $5 at Walgreeen's. My simple candy bar idea really morphed there. He will be eating them for awhile. He's 19, though, so maybe he will share with the rest of the family.
