I'm not buying a damn thing, my family doesn't do 'stuff' anymore and I love it. Nice. Most of my family is like that, but my brother and sister and their spouses on my Dad's side do gifts and despite my going for a few years not playing along, they STILL get me stuff and make me feel guilty, so I'll once again be running around the liquor stores and Bed, Bath and Beyond to try and find some token something to give in return. My SIL is especially giving and spends a ton on me and the kids. She'll ask for a list for the kids and I'll think of everything I can to give her choices and she buys it ALL!
Every year I say I'm going to get professional pics of the kids to make for a super easy gift. Every year I think of it about now when it's way too late.

I think my family has finally realized that I’m not kidding when I say I don’t buy gifts for adults just because it’s Christmas, and I don’t expect them to buy gifts for me just because it’s Christmas.
I will buy Christmas gifts for children though, and on my side of the family, my Grandchildren are the only children. My brother has a couple of children that are still minors, but I have no idea how to contact either of their Mothers to say I have gifts for the children. On Mister’s side we still have Kiddo and Mister’s niece. The teens….. wow, there’s actually only one teen now….. are still young adults, and for Christmas purposes, I lump young adults with children, but Mister has them covered. The only thing I could maybe add for their Christmas, is stuff from Bath and Bodyworks, which they love. It’s still not to late to do that.
I don’t always even get Mister gifts for Christmas. If there’s something I know he wants, or something I see that I know he’ll like, I’m on it. Otherwise, no. I’m not spending my money on random stuff he may or may not like or use, just so he has Christmas gifts from me to unwrap.
I told him yesterday that one of his most loved female artists will be here in concert in spring of 2023. I told him to find some seats for the concert here or in the next closest city……. which is a city he loves, even though I don’t know why lol. I tried to find good seats myself, but I got exasperated trying to navigate all the pre-sale BS. So if he finds tickets he wants, I’ll pay for them so he can see his Boo live in concert. Depending on how much the tickets cost, they will be his Christmas gift or his Christmas AND birthday gift lol. He is pretty much in love with this artist, so I would even pay for him to be able to meet her if that’s a thing while she’s on tour. Getting to actually meet and speak to her would probably be one of the highlights of his entire life lol.
My disclaimer that makes it all okay in my head, is that I buy stuff throughout the year, when I come across something that I’m pretty sure my loved ones will like and enjoy. That brings me joy, and those ”just because” gifts seem to be really appreciated because they aren’t some random thing I bought just to say I got them a gift. I’m not very good at choosing gifts under pressure, just because it’s a certain day of the year coming up, so I like my way better….. trying to be generous and thoughtful regardless of what “season” it is.
I would make the same efforts for Mister to go to one of these concerts, regardless of Christmas or his birthday. I would do it at any time of the year, just because I think he would like it.
I don’t say any of that to knock anyone who goes all out for Christmas. That is a beautiful thing too. It’s just that for ME, I realized years ago that it was mostly a waste of money. Maybe I was just doing it wrong lol.

Maybe I was just doing it wrong lol. You're part of a very large club. Economists (always killjoys when it comes to quantifying love and affection) have done studies measuring what the recipient of a Christmas gift thinks it's worth vs. what the giver paid for it and there's usually a huge shortfall. Every year I see the "must-have" gifts- an air fryer, an iPad, a K-cup coffee maker- and some people run out and buy it for anyone on their list who might be vaguely interested in one. I see it especially among older people, whose well-meaning relatives think Mom will be thrilled with an upgraded computer when she doesn't eve know half of what her current one does. Finding something for someone that they love and that they didn't even know they wanted is a real joy. It happens only rarely for me, but I love when it does. It's more likely to happen when it's spontaneous and you're not following the herd.

Pink - you gotta say which artist pls. I'm very curious. The artist is Jill Scott. I like her music and have several of her CD’s. Mister LOVES her. I know someone that lives where she’s run into Jill Scott in grocery stores or whatever, and I told that person to PLEASE not EVER mention that in front of Mister. Because that is only about a 3 hour drive from where we live and I don’t want to have to act a fool with Mister because he is stalking her. I’ll pay for him to see her in concert, and even for him to meet her, just because I know how much he loves her and her music.

that name sounds familiar. I feel like she's sung a Nationwide (I think?) commercial. if she's the lady I'm thinking of, she's got a solid voice.

I was blown away last year when DH got me a monocular (didn't even know they existed) because he saw how useless my binoculars were with my vision impairments. Although he does lay full claim to jackassery on frequent occasions, it was a very meaningful gift. As bizarre as it may sound, this year's decision to each buy what we wanted made us both very happy despite a disparity in cost.

She was most popular in the 2000’’s, between 2000 and 2010, I think. But I could be wrong. I don’t watch much tv, so I can’t say if she’s the one you are thinking of in that commercial. Mister LOVES her, to the point that if she wasn’t a celebrity, I might be worried lol. But I say that Maxwell is my next ex-husband and he just doesn’t know it (even though some people swear he is gay), and Prince could’ve swooped me right off my feet at any time before he died, so celebrity crushes don’t bother me. And Mister most definitely has a crush on Jill Scott lol.

At any time of my life since 1963 until about 5 years ago, I would have dropped everything in my life and married Paul McCartney--like he even knows who I am.

How do you use that? I have never seen a frying pan that looked like that. Might be a good gift for DS’s GF.

I'm not buying a damn thing, my family doesn't do 'stuff' anymore and I love it. I am going to be a mule in transporting a pricey bourbon this weekend when I fly to PA, as my friend can't find a specific label in her area. well, if I can find it here, I guess. I leave Sunday. re: cookware, I have suggestions. idk why my brain went to knife blocks at first search, but whatever. still useful info! knives - I have this set from ~15y ago now, also from Kohl's. some blades are a little discolored from water stains, but everything's still in great working order. the knives are a comfortable weight balance, as well. pots/pans - I was gifted this set when I bought my first condo in 2003. I gifted it to a friend a few years back when I upgraded to Calphalon tri-ply, but I still have one pot from the set (there wasn't a similar in the Calphalon set) and use it often. again, it was also from Kohl's lol... funny that the first links to pop up were from there. AFAIK, the rest of the set is still in use in the rental cottage where my friend was the winter caretaker. What bourbon are you looking for? You can locate availability on the PA state store website - www.finewineandgoodspirits.com

Ah. My BIL somehow got a bottle of that last year. I know the state does a lottery for Pappy, not sure about the Eagle Rare. You could always come home with a consolation PA booze - Dad's Hat rye is good stuff and I also like New Liberty Distilling's Bloody Butcher bourbon. On the Pittsburgh side of distilling in the state is Wigle whiskey. All available in the state store.

she and her BF had found the Eagle way down Cape when they came up this summer. she said if I could find it, great. if not, not to sweat it. I'm just off upper Cape, and it took me a few stops to find a bottle. glad to help out there! I'll make a note of the names here....I'm not planning to check my bag on the way home tomorrow night. next time, or I can ask her to bring me a bottle when she comes up

The triplets are all set. I bought a radio-controlled Batmobile for one, radio-controlled bumper cars for another and the FAO Schwartz giant floor piano keyboard for the last one.

I ordered "DH" a Ninja Creami for Christmas yesterday. that looks super nice! I just got some averagy thing. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BTQGBFT/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_slice_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1So - when I went to pull this up to post link, not only did I see that the reviews weren't that great - one of them wasn't even going to be delived before christmas! So I cancelled them!! Now they saying they are "trying to cancel but it was being prepared for shipment" ummm... you just said it wasn't going to arrive for another 2 weeks, so....what's up. Now don't know if I should try to find a replacement. Not sure if the Ninja Creami might be too extravagant? Something inbetween those level might work.

I put off X-mas shopping again this year. Now it looks like I won't be buying anything. I'm hacking constantly, my sense of smell is shot, and everything tastes a bit off. The rapid test was negative, but it's five months past its expiration date and I had trouble sticking the swab far enough up my nose.
So it looks like I'm going to be spending tomorrow shopping for a PCR test. I need to get one because my partner had plans to visit his 83-year old father who has recently had chemo. I have no idea what it may cost me but I just have to do it.
My interest in buying anything online, or stuffing the stockings of my coworkers with chocolate or beeswax lip balm has completely evaporated. None of that stuff matters next to making sure that I don't infect them or cause them to infect someone else. It's not even about money. It's about time. I need to spend the time that I have left before Christmas being a killjoy because I don't want to kill someone.
