I'm so very, very tired of this "white skin = better" bullshit. Tired of racism, and this is simply more of it. Effing disgusting.

Unfortunately I think we are going to have to go through this type of desperate grasping to emerge stronger on the other side.

I am white, but not Anglo-Saxon. Neither is my wife. Where do we fit in? Do I qualified full as white? Or do you need to have come over on the mayflower? I know that when my ancestors immigrated through Ellis island we were not considered to be “white” enough. Just another example of the racism that the US has always exhibited. Just a new flavor

Lieu to Greene and Gosar: 'Take your nativist crap and shove it'Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) on Friday slammed GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) and Paul Gosar (Ariz.) for leading efforts to form the "America First Caucus," telling the House Republicans to “take your nativist crap and shove it.” A seven-page policy platform document first obtained by Punchbowl News calls for a "common respect for uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions” and describes American culture as dominated by "Anglo-Saxon" and European influences. Lieu, whose family came to the U.S. from Taiwan when he was 3 years old, tagged Greene and Gosar in a Friday tweet, writing, “As an immigrant, I served on active duty in the US military to defend your right to say stupid stuff.” Complete article here: link

Yeah, and as a "white" woman I'm still a 2nd class (or maybe lower) citizen - cause I don't have a "man" to represent me.
So, yeah, the racist/racism thing has got to go (because it's the foundation for all inequality/inequity).

I'm whiter than white with descendants that came over on the Mayflower and I have a really hard time understanding how something an ancestor did 500 years ago should have any relevance now. Seriously, the world expands and views change. Grow the fuck up and get over yourselves if you think your whiteness is the end all-be all for life.

I'm pale white, sunburn easily, but no, I'm not technically considered Anglo-Saxon (amazingly, Hitler liked the Scandinavians, maybe because we're considered "Germanic".) But no, there is no way I would join such a self-centered group. No one group of people is better than the other. I tend to grade people on how they treat others, not on their ancestry.

That is what these people were elected for. I'm not the least bit shocked.
Also not shocked by the whishy washy response of the House minority leader. Can't risk alienating all those Trump supporters.
The Republicans have all boarded the white supremacist train. Some like Greene are driving it the rest are passengers.
Says a lot about whose votes they are courting with this strategy. If you're a Republican and horrified you should be working to get them out of office.
If you can't stomach the idea because it could mean a democrat in the seat then you're just as bad.

Just seeing on CNN that Greene has abandoned this plan after a big blowback from some of the GOP! Guess she isn't as smart as she thought!

First Anglo Saxon Caucus meeting: KKK Barbie & NRA Skipper (Greene & Boebert) are gonna be real upset when they find out they have to be covered from head to toe in the Anglo Saxon version of a burqa. Florida Man Gaetz is looking forward to getting a shield to hide behind. GQP cosplay & larping is all the rage right now.

Not sure why the Anglo Saxons are so great, anyway. They kept getting pillaged by the Vikings, then invaded and taken over by the Romans, until they went back home, and then invaded and run by the Normans. For the longest time, their king spoke French, not English, and they were considered the Arkansas of the French empire , not even able to grow wine grapes and known primarily for wool. The America First talks about the Anglo Saxon architectural style, but the Greeks and Romans were building magnificent buildings back with the Anglo Saxons were living in huts, so I’m not sure what they’re referring to there.
Sure, I’m mostly Anglo Saxon DNA, but I’m not sure that’s something to boast about.

What on earth is the "Anglo Saxon political tradition" lol.......ie You wait till someone burns your straw hut..... then attack them with wooden forks?
No-one has been Anglo Saxon for a very long time
Alfred the Great was a good one but only because he managed to not get killed.
Definitely not a White supremacist. Thats an insult.

I’d love to see the family trees of the yahoo supporting this stuff. How do we know how “American” they are? What if they are from immigrants who came over last century? Does that make them more American than the Native American? Or the guy whose relatives came from China in the 1800s?
We are supposed to assume they are “native” since they are white? It’s ridiculous that anyone believes this garbage.
Full disclosure: I am as white as a sheet. That isn’t what makes me American though.

Most died their first year on North America.

I'm entirely too lazy to do the genealogy thing myself so I looked at my mother's family bible, surprisingly it didn't burst into flames!, and did it that way. Apparently Governor Bradford is a great-something or other. I knew about the Mayflower descendents on my paternal side but I never knew about that on my mother's.

The last part of the Finding Your Roots episode with John Lithgow had host Henry Louis Gates Jr. (who is black) telling Lithgow to turn to the last page of the book provided him to see who he is related to who has appeared on the show. Lithgow turns the page and his jaw drops as it is a picture of the host Henry Louis Gates Jr.. They are related through their mother's ancestors. Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s mother was a white English woman.

Working on that womans staff must be such a pleasure. Be prepared to constantly fall on her sword.
Do they believe what she believes or do you think they have to stop and throw up every morning before they walk in?

Greene is such a classy lady. From the article, "On Friday, sick and evil POS [piece of s****] in the media attacked me with phrases I never said or wrote," she said in a statement to Newsweek. "The scum and liars in the media are calling me a racist by taking something out of context." It's your staff, you are responsible (if you know what that word means) Calling someone a POS because they quoted a statement from your office is just mind blowing to me.

I bet Matt Gaetz is pissing a brick over this. A cause he could hang his hair dome-covering hat on, and the perpetrator of it suddenly takes a hard backward step (likely because her plans were outed via a leak, rather than because she changed her mind). Plus, it took everyone's short attention spans away from his bonking underage girls while touting their charms via nude pics on his phone and being "generous" to them via payment apps, whose transactions he did very little to hide. I hope the whole lot of them hop on a gun-laden broomstick with a "My Freedom Or Death" banner affixed to it, and ride it straight to hell.

I love that show, Tennesseer! We rarely miss an episode. I'll bet some of those white supremacists were shocked when on that show they discovered Johnny Cash has a "person of color" in his family tree. I think finding out stuff like that just makes life more interesting.

Kind of like where I live in the South - the men like to dress up in Southern uniforms and strut around to honor their ancestors who they assume fought for the South. I have a friend who is the county historian, however, and she said in this area the men split about 50/50, with some actually fighting for both sides, depending on who paid better, or on who arrested them and forced them into the service. Very few wealthy people with plantations, and some of the Southerners here felt that they were being forced to fight for the rich people. Can’t tell the re enactors that though.

Back in the fall of 1994 the Battle of Shiloh was recreated here in Memphis' Shelby Farms Park. I attended it with two co-workers who were also work transplants from the northeast. Prior to the beginning of the battle everyone was nice and friendly even to strangers. After the battle began it was a whole different story. All the cursing and expletives aimed at the Yankees was over the top. We three kept a low profile but laughed as the North eventually won that battle and went on to win the war.

The episode with Lithgow was the second time a guest was distantly related to Gates. Then there was Larry David who often played Bernie Sanders on SNL skits finding out he was distantly related to Bernie Sanders.
