It would be hilarious if it wasn’t downright terrifying. The link was circulating on Twitter. do you get scared when people predict the "end times" too?
note: I am being half sarcastic.

what if Jan 6th was a trial balloon? If it was, I would say the nation is in okay, but not great shape.

IM(not so)HO, the body count would be much higher, the prosecution rate would be more, and the end result of our nation still standing would be the same,

I’d rather it come now. We could still beat it now. Reckonings are never easy.
I’m more terrified for others. My privilege is pretty solid.

That black officer, Officer Eugene Goodman, who knew what he was facing and intentionally led away the mob to protect congress ... I strive for that level of courage.

I think they <majority at least> thought this was it. That pence could swing it. he'd say magic words and then trump would continue his reign. Likely they anticipated battling BLM and antifa or somesuch in the streets, and relished the thought. I hope some of these garden variety thugs are having some pause with the arrests, people getting fired, etc. The more extreme may likely still be plotting. I think they could be dangerous. I'm sure a lot is going on behind the scenes in terms of investigating, identifying current threats, and I don't think we will hear about that. And maybe not for a few years.

I just read this this morning. Lots of backpedaling.... "I sincerely apologize to the American people. I recognize my actions that have brought shame upon myself, my family, my friends, and my beautiful country. In the moment I thought I was doing the right thing. I realize now that my actions were inappropriate and I beg for forgiveness from America and my home state of Idaho.www.newsweek.com/josiah-colt-capitol-rioter-pictured-hanging-senate-balcony-forgiveness-1559945

I appreciate the level headed replies. I am not in a level headed mood today. I think most who have spent any time looking at the situation have felt that way at times this past few days. It makes ones head spin, and that makes one dizzy. Strange fucking days indeed. I've had more time than I otherwise would have, recuperating at home this week, and I have found myself having to get away from the news for spells to clear my psyche. Otherwise I tend to start thinking apocalyptically, and in absolutes. Distance and perspective is important. I do agree with others about a follow up attack. I don't think any is likely to be stronger, and I think the capitol forces will be much better prepared. This was their best shut, far fetched as it was I think. I think few but trump expected them to get this far. And I think trump allowed himself to so self delusionally believe it would succeed that he lived in his own little happy bubble for the prior week, still hoping for victory. He must have been absolutely crushed these last few days, as reality comes crashing down. Having said all of that, I don't think we are out of the woods yet, by any means. The loony tune mobs can still absolutely still attempt more violence, anywhere. Even less predictable is the other damage the Admin can still do on the way out. What is Pompeo doing in Taiwan? Any other foreign policy mines? What else can they do domestically next week to tear things up on their way out? Trump seems to be (even more) unstable now. That is not a happy thought. So, yeah, I can see why we are all on edge. Even the Magats who are all defensive now are on edge. Everyone is there and it sucks. What a fitting end to the Great Dumpster Fire of the Mad King.

I wonder how many would have participated in using the gallows erected nearby and explaining it by "In the moment, I thought I was doing the right thing"; how many would have stood by and allowed it to happen; and how many would have fought to stop it from being used.

what if Jan 6th was a trial balloon? The pictures of what they have done in DC - the fencing and law enforcement in full military garb - makes me think the next wave will have a much harder time. The pictures look like something you would see in one of those war torn countries - with grand buildings behind serious fencing and patrols with giant rifles.

If I was in law enforcement, I’d be wary of my coworkers. It seems to me that in some situations, they have to be able to depend on each other to stay alive and well. I am 100% convinced that all law enforcement has been compromised by white supremacists that are Trump lovers. We don’t know who all of them are and whether they’ll actually do their jobs correctly.

meh. I'm wondering more about what they took out/took in of the Capitol (computers? phones? tablets?) and physical documents. I do NOT envy the IT people involved in the aftermath - i'm guessing they are doing a complete visual/hands on inventory of EVERY device. And hopefully, they actually HAVE an inventory of all devices (I imagine they would). (no self reporting by employers that a device is still there). I'm guessing they will be "rebuilding" all the computers/phones since who knows what got loaded on one or more of them. Who knows what got intentionally left behind. I've always felt that trump was more of a tool/puppet than anything else. I'm feeling the same way about his loser supporters. Nothing more than tools/puppets. I feel bad for anyone who left their personal stuff (phone, wallet, laptop, etc) in their office. Since security is so very lax at the Capitol - I'm assuming there were plenty of unlocked (no password needed) devices or sticky notes with passwords prominently displays (cause passwords are so inconvenient). In the not so distant past - my super locked tight office had an intruder steal a bunch of cell phones/devices off desk tops, took company laptops, took wallets (from coats, purses) all within 20 minutes of being on the floor. It's a floor with 130 people working in offices and cubes. The IT and general security people at the Capitol are NOT happy... ADDED: That theft changed a lot of things at the office. There were constant reminders about locking devices, not letting people on to the floor, etc. It didn't let up. People get talked to if they don't "lock" their computer before leaving their desk if it's found not locked. Same with leashing laptops. Don't even think of writing down a password. 4 times a year we get the talk about security in the office, on the road, and at home (devices, paper, applications like email). I do not work for the government. I've worked IT in DoD Security Clearance positions, one at an AF Base in a secure vault. They do have an inventory of all devices. Standard to record identifying info on issuance. Tracking software on each device as well...I've heard they already recovered at least one laptop that way. Multifactor authentication to log in. We had a CAC (Common Access Card)...that you wore on your person and had to insert into a smart card reader before you entered your password. Protocol was to pull the card whenever you left your machine, which would immediately lock it. Leaving a machine unattended with your card still in the reader was a big no-no. Even without this, machines should lock after a few minutes of inactivity. Plus everyone took multiple required IT security courses per year that instructed about stuff like not leaving passwords lying around on post-its. the repetition of these got tedious very quickly. Encrypted hard drives also very likely, almost certain for devices that could leave the premises. If all of the above were in place at The Capitol, I think the possibility of classified data being compromised in this event is extremely low.

That is why DT had put his minions in charge at the Pentagon & at other places where help could be requested. They got rid of long term employees who wouldn't go along with what they wanted. He had already gutted the threat assessment group...I'm betting it's someone like Miller who is getting him to do all this...or Bannon. There may be a bunch of folks ending up in prison after all is said/done!
