hamstrung both the CDC and the FDA, but I did not realize to this extent. This is all kinds of wrong. And it started back in Feb before the pandemic was even a pandemic. www.nytimes.com/2020/12/16/us/politics/cdc-trump.htmlATLANTA — Kyle McGowan, a former chief of staff at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and his deputy, Amanda Campbell, were installed in 2018 as two of the youngest political appointees in the history of the world’s premier public health agency, young Republicans returning to their native Georgia to dream jobs.
But what they witnessed during the coronavirus pandemic this year in the C.D.C.’s leadership suite on the 12-floor headquarters here shook them: Washington’s dismissal of science, the White House’s slow suffocation of the agency’s voice, the meddling in its messages and the siphoning of its budget.
In a series of interviews, the pair has decided to go public with their disillusionment: what went wrong, and what they believe needs to be done as the agency girds for what could be a yearslong project of rebuilding its credibility externally while easing ill feelings and self-doubt internally.
“Everyone wants to describe the day that the light switch flipped and the C.D.C. was sidelined. It didn’t happen that way,” Mr. McGowan said. “It was more of like a hand grasping something, and it slowly closes, closes, closes, closes until you realize that, middle of the summer, it has a complete grasp on everything at the C.D.C.”

And YET they waited till after the election, till AFTER the electoral college decision to come forward When they have been out of CDC since August....... Yeah, they sure have their priorities right. Its NOT whats the right thing to do. Its I'll-stick-with-anyone-who is-power, so lets wait what the election results are before we decide if we want to go public with our revelations. 300K+ people who dies be damned! They could have come out in August. But...they didn't. NOT impressed now. Too late for anything or any damage control.

I think we’ll see a lot of people coming out now, once they are sure Trump doesn’t get a second term.
I agree with you, why didn’t they speak up earlier.

I think we’ll see a lot of people coming out now, once they are sure Trump doesn’t get a second term. I agree with you, why didn’t they speak up earlier. It will be a snowball. It will start small, to test the political backlash, but the more people who tell their story, the more other people will come forward. But, for the rest of my life, I expect to hear more and more about what happened between 2016 and 2020. Unless, of course, his loyalist succeed in overthrowing the country.

And just like sexual assault victims who wait until others tell their stories, they won't be believed either.

Because if they came forward before the election, they could have f^&*ed up the CDC and FDA worse. Trump is incredibly vindictive, he could have done a hell of a lot more damage than he did, and would do if they had come forward before they knew he didn't get a second term. And if you think the scientific community was screwed back then, that would only be child's play. Sometimes, you have to look to preserving what you have. I get it.

Speaking of vindictive, Trump wants to get a special prosecutor appointed to investigate Hunter Biden so his dad can’t dismiss the investigation.
Biden Sr won’t dismiss the investigation- that would be something Trump would do.

‘We want them infected’: Trump appointee demanded ‘herd immunity’ strategy, emails revealA top Trump appointee repeatedly urged top health officials to adopt a "herd immunity" approach to Covid-19 and allow millions of Americans to be infected by the virus, according to internal emails obtained by the House Oversight Committee and shared with POLITICO. “There is no other way, we need to establish herd, and it only comes about allowing the non-high risk groups expose themselves to the virus. PERIOD," then-science adviser Paul Alexander wrote on July 4 to his boss, Health and Human Services assistant secretary for public affairs Michael Caputo, and six other senior officials. "Infants, kids, teens, young people, young adults, middle aged with no conditions etc. have zero to little risk….so we use them to develop herd…we want them infected…" Alexander added. " t may be that it will be best if we open up and flood the zone and let the kids and young folk get infected" in order to get "natural immunity…natural exposure," Alexander wrote on July 24 to Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn, Caputo and eight other senior officials. Caputo subsequently asked Alexander to research the idea, according to emails obtained by the House Oversight Committee's select subcommittee on coronavirus.
Alexander also argued that colleges should stay open to allow Covid-19 infections to spread, lamenting in a July 27 email to Centers for Disease Control Director Robert Redfield that “we essentially took off the battlefield the most potent weapon we had...younger healthy people, children, teens, young people who we needed to fastly [sic] infect themselves, spread it around, develop immunity, and help stop the spread.”
Alexander was a top deputy of Caputo, who was personally installed by President Donald Trump in April to lead the health department's communications efforts. Officials told POLITICO that they believed that when Alexander made recommendations, he had the backing of the White House.

The Netherlands is flat as a pancake so no avalanches, but I did mean to use that word as the it will be like an avalanche after these first few snowflakes turning into an apocalyptic event. Though I may be too optimistic in believing people will actually want to cone forward. That assumes a sense of shame that many in this regime do not possess

herd immunity is the only choice for shithole countries. that is because they have no national strategy and no healthcare system to speak of.
it is amazing that places like Rwanda are actually doing much better than the US on this.
strike that, it is not amazing. it is revealing.

Your linked article is also in reply #11. Whoops! I keep forgetting what I read where! With all of this crap coming down, I'm thinking my being pissed off is starting to override my BP meds!! I think it can. I take low BP meds too. I think of Trump's presidency as the outsource and for sale Presidency. He appointed people to positions that competed with their existing businesses so they had incentive to rip apart what they were put in charge of and take over for profit parts they could get away with stealing/taking. It surprises me not at all he was doing this to the FDA and CDC as the FDA was an early obvious target of his the minute he got into office. Think how many Trump steaks one can sell if you don't have to limit yourself to good beef and sell lesser beef to people who may not have had steaks before. They would assume they are the issue, not the meat. But there are so many that worry me including dismantling the NWS, the national weather service. This is something a country should protect and not sell off to a private business which could go bankrupt or choose to ignore govt needs. Food supply (farming) is important to a nation's health. Transportation (trucking, container barges) etc. are important as are will pipelines hold up to extreme weather or fail? This contributes and sustains a nations daily health. Even pre 1900, not everything was made and consumed within a 10 mile or lesser radius. Its 2020, things are global, restoring America to greatness and beyond should be what we are looking for. Not some historical anaomly of the 1950s where America went backwards and locked down. To the future and beyond!

We have proved with almost no effort at all that we *ARE* the worst healthcare system in the world, unless of course if you look at isolated small countries on the size or smaller than North Dakota (a beacon of disaster, a point on the leaderboard the rest should do their best to avoid).

I'm an optimist. I'm expecting more of an avalanche than a snowball. Unfortunately, the trigger for the avalanche will be the astounding death toll this winter. I am not contradicting myself. An astounding wave of deaths is already baked in.

Costa Rica and Cuba have healthcare systems that are approximately as robust as ours, and 1/10th the cost.
I REALLY WISH that Americans understood that, and felt the disgust and outrage they SHOULD FEEL about it. it is, after all, something so basic that it really does impact EVERYONE.

Yeah, that herd immunity thing... I watched a friend sit stoned faced (a believer in herd immunity) when another friend was coping with the news that her brother's boss (and a coworker) had recently died from Covid19. Her brother works out of state and so she had just gotten this news before our "friends video call". I offered sympathy to my friend - she didn't know those who died but she had to deal with the second hand grief of having to try to comfort her brother long distance. My friend was grieving along with her brother at that point. The pro herd immunity friend said nothing. Not even a "we should honor their memory! they died for the cause!". It's all fun and games until someone you know has a bad outcome or is effected by a bad outcome.

Explain to me why the trump crowd also seems to be against the vaccines for Covid-19. If they love Trump so much, why wouldn't they trust the Vaccines developed under his watch? (Based on what the biggest trump supporter in my Facebook network posted yesterday.)
