oh wow, that wasn't all that long ago! Not long ago at all. I hope he was on pain meds even recently while taping shows. I have heard pancreatic cancer is quite painful. ABC has a one hour retrospective look at his career at 10 p.m. EST, 9 P.M. CST tonight. It wasn't painful for my mother, but she only got about seven weeks after diagnosis, with most of those in the hospital. Told me that they would ask her how was the pain, and she would reply, "What pain?" Small blessing, or maybe not that small, in a bad situation.

I guess her uncle 'rescued' him from the hospital on Xmas eve, carrying him over his shoulder bc he couldn't walk. the man didn't pass until March, but was already/still hospital-bound. Alex was proof for me that treatment has improved since the 60s, but still. 🥀

I'm voting for the host of the current show on The Game Show Network of Masterminds. She use to be the host of The Chase. She is great at asking the questions Sherri Shepherd or Brooke Burns. I like her but she is too slow on a draw. She was the original host of Masterminds (they called it the "Best Trivial Show Ever" at that time but she just couldn't keep up.] ETA: loved her on the newlywed game, her personality fit that well

I imagine there will be some notification at the end of tomorrow's show regarding his passing.

ABC has the 2020 special with great interviews of Alex very recently that was on my on demand on Hulu.
The poor guy was in an incredible amount of pain that his staff clearly saw, but then said he would flip a switch and do the show where he appeared to be his normal, completely professional self.
It’s worth a watch, he had an amazing life. I want to read his memoirs that he wrote just recently.

The ABC special that aired last night was still on my DVR. I moved it out of the trash so I could watch it.
An incredible man who loved his job.

A little needed humor from The Onion: THE HEAVENS—Dutifully feigning interest as the celestial being recalled the incident, the ascended soul of late Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek politely listened to an archangel’s lame anecdote about the time he saw a bear, sources from on high confirmed Monday. “My friend and I went to Yosemite once, and this big black bear just appeared out of nowhere,” said the Archangel Michael, Prince of the Heavenly Host, who continued to recount the forgettable story as the beloved TV personality reportedly gave a cordial nod and tried to wrap things up. “We didn’t have any bear spray or anything, but it was fine, since it was pretty far away and, for the most part, they’re shy and timid creatures. Apparently with black bears you’re supposed to make yourself appear larger, but with grizzlies you’re supposed to play dead. They don’t have grizzlies at Yosemite, though. Just black bears, and I’m not sure if this one even noticed us.” Before the archangel could finish the story, Trebek is said to have cut him off and begun speaking to the Archangel Raphael, who had a story about a time he served James Gandolfini in a coffee shop. link

I am a Jeopardy fan of long standing. When I heard the news I went back thru lots of stuff I had on DVR and hadn't gotten around to deleting or maybe something told me to hang onto a show I saw called Objectified. Interview with Alex Trebek two years ago. I'm sure it is on google if interested. The Objectified interviews are not the typical interview celebrity and let them tell you what they have coming up and all that. They are probably rerunning it but since on Xfinity no point in me saying which channel.
It's been hard watching shows he had already taped but I will.

Very sad opening on today's Jeopardy. Yes it was. I wanted to cry. I have watched Jeopardy since it first aired in 1964 with Art Fleming as host. Continued watching when Alex Trebek became the host in 1984. With watching Trebek on a daily basis for so long I feel like I lost a good friend. As a side note, Art Fleming also died from pancreatic cancer.

Google has honored Alex Trebek. If you type 'Alex Trebek' on the search line, at the top of the returned results it states, "Did you mean: who is alex trebek"

It was announced today Ken Jennings would be the interim host until a permanent host is found.
New tapings soon to begin.

I am pretty sure the show's producers will have something to say at the beginning of or at the end of the Christmas day show of it being Trebek's last taping. A downer moment on a day which is usually festive. But the right thing to do. Ken Jennings would be a fine replacement for Trebek. Time will tell.

If you look at Alex Trebek in his early episodes, he really didn’t have it either. It grew with his experience.

what Mich said. I think he'll be fine to start, just because he already knows most of the answers anyway. Alex always looked the part of having done his research and sounding knowledgeable. if any of that makes any sort of sense.

I'll keep watching and give anyone who takes over that spot a chance. That's not shoes I would want to fill by any stretch of the imagination. Hats off to Ken for accepting the challenge!
Is it my imagination or have the last few episodes had easier question/answers or have I suddenly become smarter I have set to record from her on out so I don't miss the final episode. Geeze, I want to get weepy all over again just writing this. I'm not usually like this with celebrities - with a few exceptions. Ok over and out.

Alex always looked the part of having done his research and sounding knowledgeable. if any of that makes any sort of sense. Seriously. During the pandemic, they were pulling episodes out of the vault. It is absolutely amazing how much smoother and likeable he was in later episodes vs earlier ones. You could definitely see how far he came in hosting the show. I hope Ken Jennings is given a fair chance.
