I think it's to keep the anger high, so voters will vote (for trump).
I'm starting to hear angry absurd stuff from friends in very Red states via facebook and IRL. (because the rest of the world is JUST like their area and if they vote the wrong way - their area will have to change and they don't want their local lifestyle/area to change.)
I was just asked how I was doing amidst all the rioting/looting that's happening and that it must be very scary - and if I needed to I was more than welcome to come and visit them to get away from it... and my reply was "Are you confusing me with someone else? There hasn't been any "looting" since that weekend at the end of May... What are you talking about??"
And then there's the whole covid19 thing... I'm starting to hear there is no risk to go back to eating in restaurants and bars and to go to church or other to gather in large groups. (to which my response is - I don't really want to breathe in other people's air. ) And there's alot of anger when that sentiment is espoused. (I'm also like - you live with like 30,000 people in your near vicinity. I live with 3 million people in my near vicinity... my wider local suburban area has as many people as are in your State.... so, no, I'm NOT going to an indoor restaurant to eat or a bar to drink. and I really don't want to go indoors with anyone I don't know personally. I'm happy you live somewhere were there are fewer people and can enjoy entertainment stuff (eating/drinking not at home). )

On the flip side of the "red" view point - I've got some people in my very "blue" area beginning to talk about "bug out bags" and "stocking up" and seriously looking to buy a house in the "middle of nowhere" (as in going and looking at and having put in bids on such houses) to get away from the soon to be "police run state" when trump gets a second term. (it would seem that trump and GOP are out to get the Blue big cities and another term will make it happen. )
so, yeah, there's a lot of fear/anxiety and stupid out there.
I am NOT proud to be an American these days.

My dad did the same thing... said he's glad son isn't going back to the city for school because of all the murders and rioting. I'm like, I think you're mistaken.
Its true the murder rate is up... almost to 2007 levels... lots of reasons for that. But the number of murders is maybe 1/7 of those who died from Covid in the city... but THAT is a lie.
I'm sitting here thinking of how I might broach the topic with him that his whole world view is being tainted by the propaganda he subjects himself to nonstop... but there is no way. He isn't the man who I knew growing up. Well in some ways. But in many others, not at all.
He and my sister came to heads this week. She asked to be removed from his holdings and will. He blamed it on her liberal tree hugging friends and ideas... not their long stand tumultuous relationship.
