No free lunch here, but my salary is keeping up with my COL and they haven't jacked up the costs of our benefits so I am doing fine right now. It's just lower than it "should" be for my experience level. I can handle it though because to go to private right now would be a BAD idea, they are in an even worse position. At least I have a job!

I'm guessing we aren't the only state doing so?
Nope, most states have dessimated the higher education budget - which is why you see salaries frozen across the US. I forget how much this state has cut, but I want to say anything from 12-15% of the budget for the last 3 years, so probably approaching 50% here as well.
Like Drama, I'm paid off of grant funding and my salary has built in raises in the budget that we submitted to the feds. However, since there's a hiring freeze, ALL wages have been frozen here for the last 3 years.

DH works teaching as an adjunct. They have a wage freeze too. Not as big a deal to him as clearly it is part time but his salary must have slipped below some benchmark that they are not contractually allowed to go below. Because now he gets included in his salary and benefits a free lunch. It is just a sandwich, chips and a cup of coffee. And he doesn't ever get there early enough to try it but it literally lists the lunch on his pay sheet breakdown. my DH would actually be okay with a free lunch as a concession.

DH had his performance review with his boss yesterday. He agreed to start the process of re-grading DH's position. It will be a lengthy process and there will be plenty of opportunities for other higher-ups in the food change to deny the appeal. We'll see what happens.

Just be aware that the process can take well over a year - mine took about 18 months and for a friend of mine, it took about 2 years.

I knew it would take a long time, but I didn't know it could take THAT long. DH will probably continue to look for jobs, but we'll have to stay local since I'm only 3 months away from my due date.
