Alright, I asked so I guess I'm starting it. ;D I'm looking for support/comfort/cheerleading in losing some weight. Add as much or as little information as you're comfortable doing about yourself. I'm Beth, I've 5 foot, 6 and weigh about 188 lbs. No idea what my BMI is and I don't care either. My long term goal: get down to about 150 lbs and develop better eating habits. My short term goal: get rid of 20 lbs. My plan: use the treadmill M-F for the next couple of weeks and then start using the Bowflex on T and TH and drop the treadmill those days. Reduce my portion sizes and eat fewer processed foods. I started this morning and walked for 0.5 miles in 11 minutes - I had a hard time hauling my a$$ out of bed this morning... But since I can feel my calves ache a bit this was probably a good thing! Motivation: stop feeling/being fat and unattractive; and to be able to keep up with my toddlers without getting too winded.

I'm game.
I'm Amanda. 5'7", 200 pounds. I know my BMI...I don't agree with using it.
My goal is to lose 25-30 pounds and fit comfortably in a size 10.
Plan: Embarrisingly enough, I'm a dietitian. My diet is pretty good. I haven't been exercising consistently with the exception of the past week. I have a 3 year old and the only time I can get it in is to get my a** up at 5am to work out; I plan on doing this 5 days a week. Aerobic 3 days a week; abs/yoga 2 days.
Did 35 minutes of step aerobics this morning.
Motivation: Looking good in my clothes! Sense of accomplishment in saying I get up at 5am to exercise (never thought I would see the day...so not a morning person)

I would love to join, but exercising for me is difficult.
I'm Lori, 5' 7" - 160 lbs. I don't know what my BMI is either. Short/Long term goal - lose 15 - 20 lbs and keep it off. I have a treadmill - would like to use it 3 times a week plus with the weather getting nicer - will be outside with my boys. Haven't been on the treadmill for 3 weeks. Sad. I always feel great after walking. Lower my portions - this is really difficult. I LOVE to eat. Need to research foods that are good for me and keep me full. Drink more water!! Motivation - be healthy for my kids and comfortable in my clothes.

Amanda, I'm not a morning person either. I'm getting up at 5:30 to use the treadmill, at least in theory. DH has agreed to help get me up as he's up as he's already up at that point.
Lori, that's part of mine too. I want our kids to grow up seeing healthy foods/exercise as part of a normal life.
DH's current diet is gluten-free so we've been exploring whole grains the last 3+ months. My biggest problem is that I put them on the stove and then get distracted and forget about them. So quinoa (pronouced KEEN-waa) is my preferred grain right now. 10-15 minutes to cook with the lid OFF so I can see what's going on in the pot! Anything that takes 30+ minutes with a lid on is problematic unless the kids aren't home. I did millet this weekend and completely forgot about it. DH asked me about it and it was bone dry and about 30 seconds from scorching.

I'm in! Thanks for starting this Beth...
I'm Pam, 5'2", 210lbs.
Long Term Goal: weigh somewhere between 140-150
Short Term Goal: DO SOMETHING!! and stop thinking about it.
My Plan: Get up at 4:30 am to get to Gym at 5; find someone that can help me with a work out plan (for free)
I am miserable and hate myself. I have 2 sets of twins and haven't lost ANY of the baby weight!! Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I have to stop finding excuses to not get to the gym. I need to make time for ME to do it! I too want to set a good example for all four of my kids (and DH)!

I found that putting my alarm clock in my bathroom helps...on top of the guilt that now occurs if I don't work out. But I also find that when I do work out, even at that ungodly hour, I have more energy during the rest of the day vs. getting an extra 30-40 minutes in bed.

Yay! More motivation! I am 27yo, 5'8'', and 167 pounds at last week's Weight Watchers weigh in. I started 2010 at 181, got down to 160 at one point last year, and then after my wedding in October I've gained back the 7. My original goal was 145, but now I'm being more realistic and saying 155. Having a hard time giving up the breakfast pastries...
Long Term Goal: weigh anywhere from 153-157. Short term goal: start going to the gym again, twice a week. Other types of exercise other days (walking, free weights, Dancing in my living room)
This is a bit hard between work and classes, but it can be done. My overall motivation is personal health (I have a lupus-type illness, so the more I can do to help my body along the better), but also we are thinking of starting our family in 2012 and I want to be in the best shape possible for pregnancy.

Here we go again!
I'm 5'7", 167~ish lbs, down from 192 at my heaviest about 5 months ago.
I would like to get to 150-ish. Current plan is to use the elliptical every day for 30 min, and to trim my eating on the weekends--it's terrible, I can't seem to help but splurge during the weekend!
Motivation is looking and feeling better, and being in good shape before TTC.

I’m Kelly, 5’5”, and weigh 192 lbs.
My long term goal is to weigh 145 lbs.
Short term goal: get down to 172 by July 1st
I lost almost 35 lbs with Weight Watchers back in 2007, but gained that and more back. I’ve been doing WW online since the beginning of this year, but will go back to meetings starting next week. Its been a struggle to find my motivation this time around. I’m hoping the meetings help with that.
My plan: Get on the treadmill in the morning before work, and/or walk around my neighborhood in the afternoon. I love to swim, I’d really like to find a community pool or something in my area where I can swim. I plan to join a gym when I’ve lost 25-30 lbs and work on toning.
Weight Watchers has a Walk-It challenge going on right now, I may join that as well. I can’t imagine walking/running a 5k!

bschoolbound- No. Or at least, not yet. WW put out a training plan last year for beginners, on how to work your way up to walking for 45 minutes. That's what I'm going to start with. Its a pretty neat little table. You walk for 10 minutes for a few days, then 12 minutes, then 15, etc. I'm excited to get started!

I'm Rachel. 5'7" 153.5 lbs. "normal" bmi, whatever that means.
Long term - I'd like to get to around 140. Not exactly sure what that will look like. I have mostly A LOT of fat to lose. I have a very high body fat %.
My biggest problem is that I work everyday. Two days a week I work both jobs. I also have 2 dogs. So between normal household stuff and walking the dogs 3x a week, I don't have a lot of time.
Right now I do yoga once a week. I also meet with a trainer 2x a month (can't afford anymore). We do about 40 mins of serious cardio and then 40 minutes of strength training. I want to use my treadmill everyday that I don't walk the dogs for 30 minutes. My trainer also told me I need to do strength at least 2x a week. So 1 extra day on the weeks I meet with her and 2x the other weeks. I'm tired just typing that! And I need to eat less fat....even if it is from good food.
Motivation: surprise graduation trip to FL the 1st weekend in May. My BFF is getting her BSN. I'd like to feel at least ok (if not better) in a bathing suit.

Ok, I'm in. I'm 5'9 and 192 lbs. This is up from 170 when I started WIRR in 2008. I have joined the gym on the campus where I work and signed up for 10 personal training sessions. I am also taking two spinning classes per week and trying to stay in for a minimum of 30 minutes each class and will build from there. I also love Wii Fit and Wii Zumba but I haven't used those for the last six weeks. My problem is finding time to exercise in between work and studying for the cpa exam. I've decided that you just have to take baby steps and DO IT!!! No more excuses from this cat!! Last night, I went to the grocery store and bought healthy items for my lunches and snacks. This morning I did my strength exercises, had oatmeal for breakfast, made my lunch and a huge glass of ice water AND made it to work by 8 am. Mr. Cat and I are going to Hawaii in mid June 2011 and I want to lose every pound possible before then. My trainer and I calculated that 20 lbs is a realistic target so I will be happy with that. My ultimate weight would be 160 -165. I am the little cat that CAN and I will start losing this weight..and be healthy and happy!!!!! How many lost pounds is worth?? He should be worth 10 at least??

rr234: Hey..."household stuff and walking the dogs 3x week" counts as exercise. Anything that gets you moving counts!! So your pups are helping you stay active. Good job!

Ugh, I'll try to hop on here and be supportive but warning, I'm VERY frustrated with weight loss right now. I'm a good cheerleader though so as long as I don't get too bummed if my results remain stagnant, I'll try to stick around.
50lbs is goal #1. I work out a lot, zumba 4-6 times a week, kickboxing 1-2x/week and a weight lifting class once a week. I've done WW, sparkpeople, low carb, wellness coaching, thyroid testing, etc. Cant figure out why I'm not losing, something isn't clicking and I can't determine how many calories to eat. My current 2-week plan per my wellness coach is to just track what I eat without keeping any one plan in mind, and we'll evaluate from there. I lost about 30lbs pretty easily on WW in 2009 then stalled, stuck with it over the course of the year then quit and put that money to the gym, which I use all the time now but no weight loss results. I recently tried WW again and gained weight on the program. Since it doesn't give you full nutritional breakdown, I'm going back to (FREE) sparkpeople after wasting $65 on WW for 3mo. I think I eat fairly well but something isn't right, maybe too much fat? I don't eat much processed foods except whole grain/high fiber pasta and sometimes lean cuisines for lunch.
Goals this week - Track all food and more fruits and veggies. Workouts aren't a problem, I've turned into the person who loves the gym and skips other social engagements because I hate missing my regular classes (I would have laughed at the thought of that a year ago). To those wanting to train for a 5K, if you go to a park, you'd be surprised how much quicker that 45 mins passes when you're enjoying the outdoors vs on a treadmill.

haha, you had to ask I confess to being an addict and could chat for hours about zumba! It's a latin-based fitness dance class but most instructors add in other types of dance too - a little hip hop, bhangra (indian), reggaeton (kind of like latin hip hop?). I think it's so much fun, we get women of all ages, races and sizes at our studio, it's fabulous. Oh, and here's a website that I can't get enough of for diet-friendly recipes, everything I've tried has been really good, some of the chicken dishes are regulars at my house now. www.skinnytaste.com/

Quinoa: I rinse it off in a colander, toast it in a skillet, and then cook it in broth or water. A woman at Costco today (she and I were buying quinoa) suggested cooking it in coconut milk. -------------------------- I weighed myself today. 159 lbs, 5'9". Six months ago I was 143. I am certain the weight gain is from a combo of sedentary activity, insomnia, hormones, food allergies and stress. My diet is low calorie organic/whole foods. I'll be happy to get back to 143 lbs. I tried a juice cleanse but that didn't help. I also went without meat for awhile because of a severe but temporary scale back in income, so the complex carbs from beans went where they aren't welcome. I might even have to exercise. I didn't do much of that because it rains all the flippin' time in the winter where I live, and being under the financial constraint, I didn't see value in putting money into a gym when I had taxes and utilities and insurance payments to save for.
Plan: use Donna Eden's Energy Medicine for Women for stretches and energy routines to restart the metabolism and energy redirection/rechanneling. Knock off the progesterone until I "fall to the Communists". Situps and squats the first week. Walks when weather is mildly crappy, gardening when it is good, swims when weather is $#i+.
I look forward to encouraging and cheering you all!

Man, this is hard to write. But maybe putting it in writing will make me accountable. Ok...
5'6" (and a half if that helps) and 150
Long term goal: get weight down to 135 (15 lb loss)
Short term goal: lose 10 lbs in next 11 days before vacation (ok, that 10 lbs seemed way more realistic when it was the goal 1/1/11)
Motivation: generally, get in shape. I am a size 10 and carry it ok so I'm not humongous comparatively. But this is huge for me. My weight when I was really in shape was 125. I am almost 42 and just feel so tired, weak, bleh all the time.
Problem: I am the laziest person I know. I set the clock for every morning at 5 to work out and sit and stare at it. I plan on working out after work but instead get the cookies and milk and watch The Biggest Loser (I'm a little obsessed with weight loss shows).

I'm game. I'm 33, 5', 154 lbs. I don't know what my BMI is, but I'm chunky all over. My short term goal is 145lb by June. My long term goal is 130 lb and drop a bra size or 2.
I am still carrying about 20 lb of baby fat, and my "baby" is almost 12. I have been trying to lower my portions by about 1/3.
I really like to eat, so I think this is a good start. I don't like to work out, I'm lazy, but I did score 4 Yoga for weight loss dvds on Ebay for $1.75 ( ;D yay deal!). Gonna give them a try.
I work nights and get home at about 4am. Is it better to work out and then go straight to bed, or try to get up earlier in the day?

I'd love to join! I started trying to lose weight about a month ago when I got home from vacation. I'm 41, 5'9" and started at 172. I was down to 167 but then yesterday was back up to 169. My goal is 155, but I'd be happy with 160. I went to WW about 6-7 years ago and was down around 155 then. I know I can do it, but it definitely gets harder as you get older. I don't exercise, at all, hate it. I am going to start walking during my lunch at work as soon as the weather breaks and want to start taking the stairs at work (6 flights). I've done it once and thought I was gonna croak, so, maybe that's something to work up to. Unfortunately, I usually have my hands full, so, not sure that's the best time to take the stairs. I have been making better choices with food, eating smaller portions, more fruits and veggies, but also am not denying myself of things I really like either. I still eat 2-3 Dove chocolates a day. I'm drinking more water and have cut my Diet Coke intake A LOT. I limit myself to 2 per day now and most days I don't have more than one. I hate how I look and how I feel right now.

I don't toast the quinoa, but we do rinse it in a fine mesh strainer. The package we buy says to rinse to get some oil off (soaparin? or something like that?). The other packages we've looked at don't say to do that. I think it's 2 cups water/broth to 1 cup quinoa, bring to boil and then simmer for 10-15 minutes. Dead easy.
To be honest, it's a grain. Not much flavor but has a good texture. We get it at Woodmans's, it's in the gluten free aisles. There's several different brands available there. I think we opted for this one because it was highest in iron. We made veggie stock and have been using that to cook grains in. It adds to the flavor.
