In the ad announcing the release, Burger King laser-focused on the impossible nature of Impossible Whoppers. The minute-long spot features people candidly trying the meat, expressing surprise at the fact that hey, wow, this stuff really does taste like beef. At the 0:47 mark, one patron sums the collective opinion succinctly: "D*mn, that's good." But one cadre of conservative-leaning activists didn't take kindly to the language. In a statement issued last week—more than five months after the ad's initial air date—the group One Million Moms decried what they called a "highly inappropriate" use of "the d-word." "Burger King's Impossible Whopper ad is irresponsible and tasteless. It is extremely destructive and damaging to impressionable children viewing the commercial." www.msn.com/en-us/foodanddrink/foodnews/heres-why-a-conservative-moms-group-is-peeved-at-burger-king/ar-BBYUKTs?li=BBnb7KwThis is the same group that lost their collective minds over a lesbian couple getting married on the Hallmark channel.

I'm more upset about kids in cages and things like that, rather than someone saying, "damn."

Their heads would explode in Canada. We don't bleep out offensive words or "the finger". Late night talk shows are a very different experience.....and we sell this.

I think those are the commercials where the one guy says he's a fool. And my verbalized response is something like "no shit/we knew that"

One Million Moms are a joke. I wish media would stop listening to them. I think they're actually more like 10% of what their name suggests.

With everything that is happening that causes actual harm to people and other lifeforms, that's what they get upset about?
I think that tells us everything we need to know about them. It's not about the children. It's about forcing their agenda on everyone else.

And here I thought this thread about it snowing in Washington, D.C. this past Sunday when temps almost hit seventy degrees.

They get offended by "damn" and the Hallmark commercial with two women, but nobody seems to notice the Sonic guys. Got that from Tosh.O when the Coke commercial with the two dads came out.

It would be fun to see their heads explode if BK did a remake of the Harry Meets Sally scene in the restaurant.

I'm just kind of surprised that Conservative Moms would let their kids eat at Burger King.
I know McDonald's caters to kids... but Burger King? They got that creepy King mascot who seemed to be delivering food to 20 somethings watching the big game and/or playing video games.

It probably doesn't matter whether it is a business they would consider patronizing or allowing their children to patronize. What matters is that everyone, everywhere must be forced to adhere to their rules or be destroyed. There is a reason they belong to a demographic that is sometimes referred to as the "American Taliban." It is not enough that they are free to practice whatever restrictions they care to put on their lives. Those restrictions must also be forced on everyone else. Any hint that other people who are harming no one are free to live their lives as they see fit is viewed as "persecution."

One of my friends said it might be 1000 moms, at best. The number of angry moms (and others) who signed up to boycott Burger King unless they kill the ad or take out the word "D**n" is HUGE! From the linked article: "Currently, about 9,200 people have signed the pledge." I'm surprised BK is still in business.

Great, now I have to go to Burger King just to be the opposition. I rarely eat fast food, and BK has never been my favorite amongst them.

So children hearing "damn" in a burger commercial is bad, but hearing their president say "I grab them by the p*ssy" is perfectly ok. Got it.

I agree that there are too many worse things in the universe. And on a scale of 1-10, the word damn doesn't even rate.
That said, I do think young people have become so desensitized to language that they are losing the sense of appropriateness. I had students tell me they didn't give a f*ck if they graduated or not. They weren't using it to express an extreme. They also didn't give a f*ck about the weather or anything else.
Someone has to model appropriateness. That's why cigarette ads were taken off the air.
Monkey see, monkey do.

The language I hear when I'm out and about is horrible from adults, as well as kids.

On another note, why is the impossible burger popular with non-vegans? It seems more processed, and possibly less healthy, than a traditional burger. I'm assuming most people are eating it because they think it's healthier.

Monkey see, monkey do. I agree. But, also the group is interested in a moral society based on the bible. We tend to have potty mouths at home. Well, OK, I do, and DS does. And when I talk with him, it's way worse.
But, he does keep it in check at school and at work.
And I'm OK with hearing some unsavory language related to phalluses if it also means that he's completely accepting of the lesbian couple across the street. I'd be far more worried if he started speaking with g-rated language at home and informed me that we were going to hell because we use the lesbian couple across the street as sitters. Because of course, exposing Miss M to such a relationship could influence her. And that is immoral.
