very interesting video, if you can spare 5 mins:
under Trump, Job quality has fallen to a 5 year low. so far...... interestingly, this index hit a high in 2017. it has been straight downhill since then. the record low was at the bottom of the great recession. this measures take home pay per week per job.

Oh my, this fella explains it MUCH better than many of us have tried to explain it.
Those better jobs just aren't happening in many areas no matter how much education you have or you obtain...and most can't afford to move to an area where those better jobs are available. It's not cheap to move I think my son's last move from here in Ga. to Ca. cost him about $13,000 just for the moving truck company. That's not counting a first/last month's rent for any place and deposits for utilities to be turned on etc.

it's a combination of a bunch of factors, but one of them is JOD/WOD (work on demand).
basically, how it works is that you get a job, but they call you in for your hours, and give you short notice. this prevents you from getting other work, and leaves you hanging. if you can't find a better paying job, you are stuck.
the US is heading backwards in terms of job quality. it has been for quite some time.
edit: I think it is interesting how work quality seems to be falling MOST during times of expansion. under Bush and Obama, job quality basically remained flat. under Clinton and Trump, it has fallen.
