Up 24% is up 24%. You are the one that needed to lean on numbers. Had two cents in my pocket, I found a dime, Wow, under Trump my profits have sky rocketed!! It’s all about you.

‘Doing well’ are the larger agri-biz interests slurping up taxpayer cash in a Repo-Con tariff swindle while small family farms are going banco and farmers are killing themselves. When the dust settles there will be more acreage controlled by the big boys and less family farms. See Don, it pays to be a big boy!! No surprise you don’t give a damn about We The People.

The largest dairy producer in the United States filed for bankruptcy.
guess it doesn't pay to be the big boy.

""F arm Bankruptcies Rise Again
Chapter 12 Filings Increase 24% Compared to Year-Ago Levels""
You have to really lean on the numbers to come up with that headline. Eg, Iowa has about 90,000 farms - of those 90,000, about 24 filed bk last year. And that 24 is 10 more than the year before - the 10 makes up a 24% increase in bk's. Maybe the real take-away is that 89,976 of the 90,000 farmers did not file bk?
Good. Let's talk about Iowa, since you brought that up. Yes, the article agrees that Iowa farmers have the lowest bankruptcy rate in the US. Please tell me how 44% of farmers struggling to cover bills is a positive metric? And please be specific. Is the percentage good? At close to half the farmers struggling? Or again, you are defining struggling as something good, rather than the definition that the rest of us use?
So..all this debt that the the article talks about...this must exactly be like the "good debt" that we talk about in personal finance?
Or finances are only bad if one has to declare bankruptcy? As long as we aren't bankrupt everything is great? Just one more thing...please explain how losing a couple billion in working capital is a positive thing?

Yeah those crab legs and coach purses for welfare folks are bad news, can't have that! LOL! You of all people saying it is ok to buy crab legs and coach purses on the government dime and your tax dollars.......but then since you hate Trump so much it is all ok these days. Goverment waste as well as waste by the welfare crowd are both wrong. Two wrongs do not make it right. What happens if say 30% of the farms go idle due to bankruptcy and the nation cannot feed itself anymore? I guess you are right to be a prepper after all.... better lock and load!

Basically, we don't "feed ourselves" now....find out where all of your foods come from. Much of the farm crops are sold abroad. As for "welfare"...look up who actually benefits from welfare & for how long it is allowed.

I wonder how much of that increase is due to the changes they made to the bankruptcy laws that specifically relate to farms.

Able bodied people who refuse to bother working is not an excuse to keep giving them benefits. Quite frankly we should take the kids away from them too. Probelm solved.

The vast majority of people on food stamps work. I think a lot of them work for Wal-Mart. Walmart has a department that helps their employees get food stamps. And then they encourage them to use them at Walmart. It is a big scam to move government funds into the Waltons pockets.

"""Farm bankruptcy rates, while low, are rising and so are indicators such as the debt-to-asset ratio, a measure of solvency """ Not necessarily a solvency metric in farming - in real life, the cost-of-money is the big factor. Whenever you can leverage your land at only 4% or 5%, you load up on cheap debt (and add land assets, upgrade the machinery, etc. - and you always bid on adjoining fields, they may only come up for sale once in a lifetime.
Yes, but I am wondering about the rest of the local economy that used to process and transport the 40% of the crop that is no longer there - the grain elevators and the truckers and the trains, and also the sale of the tractors and other equipment farmers use on a daily basis. It is hard to believe that you can take 40% of their product away, replace it with socialist payments (created $$) and it does not affect the larger economy at all?

that would HAVE to be the case, right? I mean, UE is like 3.6%?
edit: it would be interesting to compare the number of food stamp recipients as a % of population in states that have over $10MW -vs- those that are under $10 MW.
