My husband hates his iPhone 10. He hates that there's no actual button on it. He wants to go back to the iPhone 8. This will save us about $10/month. Is this reasonable? Why go backwards? Is the touchscreen button on the 11 better than the one on the 10? Wouldn't it be nice if this were the worst problem we had?

Tell him to get used to it. It takes a couple days to swipe instead of pressing the home button.
What will he do when the iphone 8 gets obsolete?

I tried the "get used to it" thing. Sigh. That's what I've told him about the iPhone 8. His response: What was wrong with my iPhone 4? Ok, boomer.

I moved from a 5S to XR and really like it. The only thing I don't like is how hard it is to turn off

I would assume he has a while before the 8 is obsolete. I've got a 6 and it's working just fine. But, I use my phone, you know, as a phone. If I want to watch things, I use my tv. If I want to pay bills, I use my computer. If I want to deposit checks, I walk 1.5 blocks from my office and visit my credit union.
Boomer, indeed.

He has probably 3 years if he goes back to the 8 but app developers now are focusing on the future sans button. I’m shocked he couldn’t get used to it after a year, like others I was past it in a couple days. The touch on the 11 is just like the 10 except there is no longer 3D Touch and I highly doubt he used it. There is a way to get a “home button” on the screen of the 10/11 and it can be used instead of gestures: support.apple.com/en-us/HT202658

My work gave everyone 6s two years ago. I think they cheaped out and will have to replace them all soon. I was kind of surprised they picked that given what was selling at the time.
Home button or not I just don't like it. I haven't got used to it in 3 years. I have to Google everything. It's just not intuitive to me. I had mine sooner than the rest since I had a BlackBerry before that.

I have a Samsung 4s that I've lost track of how long - at least 5 yrs. Last spring DH'S started having battery issues and not receiving texts and voice mails until a day or two later, so he upgraded but lost his number to get a free phone. Now mine is doing the same thing and I'm so irritated at being forced to upgrade. I tried a new battery and that didn't help at all. Told dh to watch for black Friday sale. I don't want to lose my number because that sounds like a huge hassle, but I don't want to pay hundreds when I've been perfectly content with this dated technology.
I do lose the southwest app last year when they stopped supporting this version. Minor inconvenience and probably one of 15 apps that I use lol.

I don't see what it matters if he goes back to an 8. My son is still using a 4S! The 3G data is slooooow, but I don't let him use data anyhow, so he only uses it on WiFi.
I just bought a Galaxy S7 last year so it still seems "new and sparkly" to me even though the are now selling the S10. I've never cared about having the latest and greatest, just that I can easily pay cash for it and the prices drop like rocks after the first year or so.

Home button or not I just don't like it. I haven't got used to it in 3 years. I have to Google everything. It's just not intuitive to me. I had mine sooner than the rest since I had a BlackBerry before that. I went from a Blackberry to an IPhone 8. I also have an IPad Pro from the previous year, and it has a home button. The gestures are NOT intuitive to me, I don’t care what anybody says. If I didn’t have a “home” button to make things go away, I’d probably have pitched my phone and IPad across the room in a fit of rage by now. DBF has an Iphone10whatever (the big one) and I hate when he hands it to me to do whatever (usually because he’s driving at the time). The 10 (X) and the 8 came out at pretty much the same time and I chose the 8 because I was wary of the facial recognition thing, plus the 8 had at least ONE button. With all that being said, I really wish Blackberry had gotten their shit together so I could’ve stayed with them. I don’t like it that they are basically Android phones now, but I guess they had to do something for developers to make apps for them. My last Blackberry, I couldn’t even get major/popular apps, say for Kroger or Target. I have an iPhone and iPad, and will probably be getting an IMac mini soon, but I’m honestly not all that thrilled about being part of the Apple community.

Well, if the hive thinks the 8 will work for at least a year or two, then going back may be the best. It will save me $10/month and I won't have to listen to him berate his phone several times per week.
