The environmental greenies strike again. On Oct 1, my state banned all plastic knives, forks, spoons, plastic straws and individual condiment packages from being out on the counter for you to use. Now you have to ask for them. They have to keep them behind the counter. The odd thing is that the plastic drink cup lids are out on the counter. While I'm sure their intentions were well meaning, I don't see it doing what they intended. All the plastic knives, forks, spoons, plastic straws and individual condiment packages are still being used and still goes into the trash. What was accomplished? Nothing.

It will prevent you from taking more than you need, it will also give employees yet another reason to judge you for your life choices. “Oh, you want three ketchup packets, what are you, some kind of psychopath?”

All of it still ends up in the landfill.

To celebrate the passing of this law, I may go to the grocery store, buy 5 boxes of plastic utensils (they are like a dollar per box) open them and throw them all on the trash. Useless laws like this will end up harming the cause in the long run. It annoys some people, and give others a false sense of accomplishment.

Sounds like a law that should be ignored. Idiots!

IDK, after watching a bunch of kids put their mouths up to the self serve softdrink machine spigot at one fast food restaurant combined with watching customers "fondle" all the condiment packages, straws, eating utensils to find the perfect one (or worse watching someone cause them to hit the floor - and then pick them up and put them back for the next person).... I'm kinda happy to ASK for the things I want from behind a counter - atleast there's a chance that fewer people have touched the items and that the items possibly havent' been on the floor. (I don't get drinks from machines that anyone can walk up to to get a drink dispensed. And I try to avoid using cups and utensils that are hanging out in the general public area...) I once saw kids opening bags of bread at walmart and sticking their hands in and re-sealing the bags. Sometimes they removed some of the product. Humans are gross. I don't get what the big deal is with asking for condiments or utensils at fast food places.

Most folks don't need a handful of plastic drink cup lids at home. But many people grab extra plastic knives, forks, spoons, plastic straws and individual condiment packages for home. If nothing else, it's a cost saving measure by the fast food restaurants.

This is a hand print of an 8 year boy after playing outside. You want him handling the cutlery? "Go get Mommy a fork, dear"......and he touches all of them.

We had to start charging $0.50 after the second container of cheese because people were taking up to 12 at a time when they were "free". It was not free to us it was really eating into overhead costs after awhile. Boy did I get a lot of backlash. My response was it's a free market if $0.50 for cheese gets your panties in that tight of a wad go get pizza some place else.
