A Texas mom is going to prison after putting her son through unnecessary medical procedures
A Dallas mother made her son go through unnecessary medical procedures throughout the first years of his life, court documents say. She was sentenced to six years in prison, according to her attorney. The young child visited the doctor more than 300 times and underwent 13 major surgeries, CNN affiliate KTVT reported, citing a Child Protective Services report. Kaylene Bowen-Wright pleaded guilty to injury to a child causing serious bodily injury, the affiliate reported, after she began lying to medical professionals when her son was barely a few days old, the indictment documents say. 13 major surgeries??
By competent doctors? Who performs a major surgery on a parents say so? Hey doc, kid needs his tonsils removed so doc just does it. Have to wonder how much the almighty dollar came into play with the doctors. I think other heads should roll in this also. Don't misunderstand me - she is a sick puppy. Also admit that I may have overlooked if any doctors were charged - speed reading will get the best of me sometimes.

It seemed like she was lying a lot and starving the kid too. If you're telling a doctor X and Y is happening and the doctor is like well if you weren't doing X that would explain Y but since you're doing X then Y must be because of this rarer reason or something. Plus she doctor hopped a lot.

I don't know if in this case the doctors who treated the child ever got together to discuss past medical issues here. Reads like they did not know about past medical issues over the child's short lifespan.
For example, a former co-worker of mine ended up in the hospital in critical condition. Hospital doctors were not too sure what was causing the problem. But somehow the hospital doctors got in touch with several of her doctors who were providing her with prescriptions.
It was discovered she had medications which were acting against each other. None of her doctors even knew she was receiving prescription medications from other doctors. Nor did the co-worker ever tell her doctors what other medications she was on.

This was 2009 onward. Epic should have caught this because now all your medical records are on the cloud.
Course there are doctors who will do anything for the right amount of money. I don't know if this was the case or not but there were A LOT of missteps going on medically for nobody to catch how many surgeries that kid had had and not question it.
