Sadly, I think it'll be an innocent bystander that gets shot by a teacher trying to "protect" students. More incentive for parents to home school their children. I can think of a couple of my own teachers in high school who would be the last person I would want carrying a gun at school.

Do parents know which teachers are armed? And can they opt out of having that teacher for their child?

I am not going to offer a guess as to who will be the one getting hit with a bullet but I will predict the gun will be fired by a student who has gained possession of a teacher's gun.

Arm the kids in case their teacher is taken out.

Or a teacher pulling a gun on an unruly student. Even in "good schools" there are students who intimidate teachers. I can't wait for the first "Teacher kills student in self-defense" headline. Even in "good schools" there are fights between students (which I can see a teacher with a gun MIGHT feel gives them an edge in stopping the fight). I can't wait for this to happen - who knows how it will play out (teacher fires gun? Students get gun from teacher and fire it? Who gets hurt??)

So, where do these school guns "live"? Do teachers own them and carry them into and out of the school each day? Do the guns stay at the school? If the guns stay at the school - do teachers need to check out a gun each morning - strap on their holster and then wear the gun all day?
Or maybe the gun is in a special "box" in each class room - with an "in case of emergency break glass" instruction on it? OK, maybe it's more like a special locker - and the teacher has a key? (and how effective is that?? - and at what point does the gun(s) go missing without any notice because no one bothers with checking the locker...)
How exactly would this work?

Of course it's in one of the po-dunk parts of Florida. Yes, all 11 districts that are doing this are basically rural in Fl. But look up a list of what other states have done/are doing. Many states are arming teachers....is yours? If my memory is correct...110 districts in Tx. are doing it in some form or have approved doing it...even Utah has some.

Not only did I have several teachers (and admins) growing up I would not want to have guns, I know a few people who are teachers and while I love them they would suck at shooting. Where I grew up there were LEO at each school though. And I graduated HS 15 years ago. Holy fuck, it's been 15 years

Why thank you! 90% of the friend group I normally hang out with hasn't hit 30 yet so I feel ridiculously old sometimes.

And I graduated in '63...56 yrs. ago!
I can only think of one teacher in our school that I would have trusted with a gun...he was my homeroom teacher & taught auto mechanics. He was an avid hunter & fisherman. Some of our teachers were so ditzy there is no way...we had one English teacher that needed help if she got into the wrong wing of the school...she couldn't find her way out.

Even police and military make mistakes and they are people who are heavily trained.
What training besides carrying a permit will teachers have? Are they going to drill in desescalation like police departments do?
All we need is a teacher overreacting to a situation and deciding to be the "good guy with a gun".
Then what about security? How are they going to account for all the guns and their location? Kids die all the time because people make mistakes and leave weapons unattended. I'm sure they would all say they are super responsible gun owners. Problem is they are also human and no human can be constantly vigilant.
Nope. At best it'll be security theatre and not one shooter will be stopped by the "good guy". At worst it's a ticking time bomb and someone innocent is going to end up injured or worse.

Since there are several schools that have already armed the teacher, how many instances have panned out? Utah for one has had them for a while now.

It doesn't really matter. What matters is the comparison. The previous policy, or this one?

There you go again- confusing the liberals with facts and evidence.
