Allies and potential allies will watch this farce of geopolitics and again wonder what an alliance with America is really worth, if it can be flushed away one night and restored the next—or if there’s always the part where Trump says something, then the part where he takes it back. Trump’s signature trait as a real-estate mogul was that a Trump deal was never, ever a deal. His word meant nothing, and if you thought it did, he’d snatch up your money and walk away with it. As president he is no different, and by this afternoon there is not one ally but two who have been reminded never to trust him—to extend him no credit, to assume he’ll reserve the right to rewrite, unilaterally, the terms of your agreement, and force you to accept his new terms. The old diplomatic wisdom was that you should reward your friends and punish your enemies. To act completely undependable, both as an enemy and as an ally, serves no obvious purpose. Unfortunately, to declare with a booming voice from the heavens that Turkey is now in charge does not solve the problem at all. Indeed, the Kurds now know that their efforts to secure the foreign fighters is getting them little respect from the United States or anyone else, and they’re likely to divert their resources away from detainment of terrorists and toward the more pressing matter of not being invaded and killed by Turkey. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/10/trumps-unmatched-wisdom-kurds-turkey/599572/

For all the celebration of having a president that "tells it like it is" by his supporters there seems to be an awful lot of explaining about what he really meant being done by his handlers.
Guess his handlers haven't gotten the memo about Trump being the most honest president ever.

President Trump pulled US troops out of Northern Syria to clear the way for a Turkish invasion. I understood that was what he did from my first reading. I don't see any "backtracking" here.

too late to backtrack. There's video of troops & armored transit vehicles moving out of the region & Turkey is already bombing the Kurds. You can't put this toothpaste back in the tube or scrub it off the sink.

And he believes it. I'd ask if there's a shrink in the house. But, I think we'd be better off with someone who "has a pair" in Congress.

Maybe Trump thinks all the military stuff we gave to the Kurds will give them the edge in the upcoming battle? I wouldn't be surprised if much of the military stuff winds up in the wrong hands at this point. Sure will suck when stuff we the taxpayer paid for gets used against us.

Maybe not owns, not sure, they might just have his name on them, need to look that up. Trump name controversy The Turkish owner of Trump Towers Istanbul, who pays Trump for the use of his name, was reported in December 2015 to be exploring legal means to dissociate the property after the candidate's call to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S. ... It's called Trump Towers. Two towers, instead of one. Trump Towers Istanbul - Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Trump_Towers_Istanbul

President Trump pulled US troops out of Northern Syria to clear the way for a Turkish invasion. I understood that was what he did from my first reading. I don't see any "backtracking" here. They are trying, once again, to try to say he didn't say what he said...but "he meant" this/that or whatever. As someone said who listened to the call said...DT got 'rolled' by the Turkish guy and DT has no spine!

I was wrong, he just has naming rights and the owner has tried to get his name off after him banning muslims in 2015.

The Upper West Side’s Banishment of ‘Trump’ on Buildings Is Almost Complete2/22/2019 When Donald J. Trump purchased the muddy stretch of abandoned rail yards alongside the Hudson River in 1985, he envisioned building a complex called “Trump City” on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The deal didn’t quite come together, but nevertheless, in the scaled-back version that rose between West 72nd and West 59th streets, the word “Trump” was splashed in gold on six apartment towers. Soon none will say “Trump.” On Friday, the board of one tower, 220 Riverside Boulevard, notified residents that it will remove the Trump lettering from above its front door. This decision comes one day after the only other remaining “Trump Place” building, 120 Riverside Boulevard, said it planned to remove the name. In doing so, both towers — 220 and 120 — join the four other neighboring buildings in the complex that have, since 2016, each moved to wipe the president’s name from their facades, erasing Mr. Trump from the pocket of Manhattan he once imagined would be his own eponymous city. Complete article here: The Upper West Side’s Banishment of ‘Trump’ on Buildings Is Almost Complete

The markets are down everywhere today. I guess they thought he would even out and has not. they would fall and go up, at some point they will not recover, I'm not sure we are there quite yet but may be. This repo market thing keeps being talked about. Interest rates in it are going up. We have always had pretty sensible presidents. Reagon and Bush II didn't have much going for them but we survived and had some good ones afterward, now this one is very bad and the very real possibility he could get in again. That has to be as horrific to the world as it is to many of us.
You know China bought a 100 tons of gold since December and Russia did almost as much. The Chinese and Russia now have almost 2000 tons each. China is working to replace the dollar as the world currency and trump is playing right into it. The only thing that keeps us on top is confidence in our systems and used to be our integrity. That may be changing, we are no longer to be trusted. He should have stayed playing the bankruptcy game with his properties. Doing it to the US is going to be a catastrophe for all of us. Or could be.
