WASHINGTON (AP) — David H. Koch, executive vice president of Koch Industries Inc. and a long-time philanthropist, has died at age 79.
His older brother, Charles, announced the death on Friday, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I now must inform you of David’s death.”
David Koch, a billionaire who lived in New York City, was the Libertarian Party’s vice presidential candidate in 1980. He was a generous donor to conservative political causes as well as educational, medical and cultural groups.
The Koch brothers were best known for a vast political network they built that became popularly known as the “Kochtopus” for its far-reaching tentacles in support of conservative causes. The brothers founded the anti-tax, small government group Americans for Prosperity.

Though I have not personally experienced it as of yet, and hope to be the first to go of mine, it must be very hard for most people to lose a sibling. Probably the person one has known longer than anyone else on earth.

I thought Charles had retired a few years ago. But I could be wrong.

Probably the person one has known longer than anyone else on earth. Statistically I will outlive my brothers, my husband, and my husbands' siblings. His sisters are all older, and he has one younger brother, but that brother has health problems. I am not afraid of dying, I am afraid of the loneliness. I dread that day.

That was my grandmother's biggest burden. She died a few months short of her 100th birthday and, despite the fact that family would visit daily, she had this deep feeling of loneliness after losing her entire generation. It got worse as time got by... She passed in her sleep while taking a nap

I thought Charles had retired a few years ago. But I could be wrong. Charles is still running the company - my DH works for a subsidiary. David retired last year, due to medical reasons.

heartlessness is not partisan. Question. Why is it used so much in describing conservatives by posters on this board?

for me, I think (many of) the GOP policies are cruel. I have no idea whether conservatives are, or not.
this is why I tend to focus on policy rather than people.
I don't hate David Koch. I don't have bandwidth for that.

Question. Why is it used so much in describing conservatives by posters on this board?Limited vocabulary? Hardly. It is just that so many of the other, more descriptive terms are, shall we say, less than polite.

Well glad to see him gone, he used his money to cause so much harm. I hope his family or whomever inherits it goes wild and forgets about his "causes". Our country will be better off without him.
Call that harsh, doesn't bother me.

Well, that's one way to "drain the swamp"... I wonder if he's figured out now that you can't take it with you.

A couple of notes here for those of you that are so happy that this man is dead! They drew the line at Donald Trump. The Kochs refused to endorse him in 2016, warning that his protectionist trade policies, among other priorities, weren’t sufficiently conservative. Koch donated $100 million in 2007 to create a cancer research institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also gave millions to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, the M.D. Anderson Cancer in Houston and other institutions.
The Lincoln Center theater that houses the New York City Ballet became the David H. Koch Theater in 2008 after he gave $100 million. Parts of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History are named for him after he contributed a total of $50 million for exhibits devoted to dinosaur fossils and human evolution.
Seems we get a lot of posts about the Right just does not care about people. There you go for all of you that are so happy to see him die!

They are responsible for the "special election" taking place right now - in August - to immediately stop all work on the light rail and cut public pensions of emergency responders. We already voted on both of these things.

Time for the City workers, that's all of them,, Not including first responders, First responders have there own State funded pension plan. to start building their own retirement Just like the rest of us. other wise it is bankruptcy for the city down the road.
They city employee can no be stopped if they want to push something thru. 14,000 + city employees. Phoenix voter number are a little hard to find, last special election total voter turn out was 107,277. Suppose normal voter would be 50/50. for and against or some where in that realm. add in the city employees that will most certainly vote for this. There you have it,

Be sure to vote Yes on 105,, No on 106!
We live outside Phoenix city limits ......... but I do like the light rail. If people want to leave south Central Ave as 4 lanes, why don't they put light rain up and down 1st St and 1st Ave?
Probably cost but might make some people happier. Can;t please everyone.

Woo hoo. It looks like 105 was defeated. That is the THIRD time voters have supported the light rail. Let's stop wasting time and resources rehashing it.
