Never had to wear glasses before, but once one becomes "elderly" they seem to be a requirment....but now I can read without having to squint and I can finally see the sports ticker on the tv while I'm standing in the kitchen cooking dinner....
So, do my new glasses make me look any smarter? ;D

Smarter - no. Blind - yes. Just wait until you are really elderly and you squint no matter what!

No, now you look like an expensive nerd. I'd say fashionable, but by definition, nerds aren't fashionable.

In another week I'll be counted in the nerd camp too, my glasses are on order. The frames are red (what was I thinking?). Besides color, I'm not entirely certain what they look like since I made the selection while my eyes were still very dialated. The pair I first chose didn't have large enough lenses for the bifocal progression, so I quickly chose a random alternate pair just to be done. Awesomeness. Not.

I wear contacts. I have glasses as a backup, but I can't see right in them. I hate not have peripheral vision. It makes me crazy to glance to the side, or up, or down and see nothing but fuzz. I very rarely wear my glasses. But I actually like how I look in them.

I do wear my glasses to watch TV, or if I'm driving and not wearing my contacts for some reason, but not just around the house. Plus if I wear my glasses for too long they give me a headache. I've had a few people tell me I look good in glasses, but they're just not practical for my lifestyle.

Good luck with the glasses. If your son laughs again, just beat him, that's what I'd do I got glasses at 16 and hated losing peripheral vision, so got contacts as soon as I could talk my parents into them (I actually paid to get the contacts from my own money, I just had to get them to take me to the dr to get a fresh prescription). Did lasix two years ago and love it! TD--the text is not getting smaller, your arms just got shorter.

Yeah I've worn contacts since I was about 14 or 15 (it's so long ago now that I can't exactly remember when I got them). The last pair of contacts they fit me for have one eye with distance vision and one eye for close vision, unfortunately I'm almost totally blind in the eye for distance vision and when I got up to walk around everything beyond 4 or 5 feet was blurry! So now I just wear my glasses which I hate because they are so heavy.

If you don't like contacts or eye glasses there is another option:
[glow=red,2,300]LASIK [/glow]eye surgery is a procedure that corrects certain vision problems, reducing or eliminating the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses..

I got contacts when I was 11. I loved them, but for the first few months they kept falling out. Good thing they were RGPs. I'm roughly 20/1100 in both eyes. But they're still changing, albeit more slowly. Even with the new polymers, my glasses still look like the old coke bottle bottoms.
Because of the scarring from the RGPs and how bad my eyes are I'm not a candidate for LASIK.

I've never heard the term RPG, just BCG (birth control glasses). My brother had to wear them when he was in bootcamp.

I'm going to need glasses or contacts soon.
I'm hesitant about contacts..my eyes are very dry. I don't like anything on my face...glasses would be extremely irritating.
