Just read that. Read a few of her works over the years. RIP. Can you give me a pointer as to where to start? I've somehow managed to avoid being assigned her and have a sense that starting with The Bluest Eye might not be the wisest choice.
I remember a very serious conversation between my forever favorite teacher and another student my age in 1979 (that would be about 12) regarding Morrisson's work and I've been too afraid to approach her writing since then.
It would honor a woman who took the written word seriously if you have me an introduction.

I first became acquainted with Morrison when Beloved was published. It got a lot of good press so I decided to read it. Her books I read are called the Beloved trilogy: Beloved, Jazz, and Paradise. All good reads.

I tried Beloved and just had to stop. Too heart wrenching. The writing was excellent but the contents was just too heavy.
I have read some of her poetry and liked it.
