I finally get to celebrate a milestone. My retirement accounts reached 100k today. I'm so happy!!
I had been hovering around the mark for weeks and I just made it.
I started saving in March 2015.
Finances are improving with continued savings. I paid off the credit card and the rest of the loans are coming down a little each month

Congratulations! You have reach the point where the annual gains on your retirement accounts is significant. I like the $10K or $100K that a 10% gain throws off most every year.
Your next big milestone might be when the annual gains on your retirement account exceeds your pay check. A guy I used to work with resigned to work on his MBA. When he was done with the MBA I asked him if he was going to return to work. He responded that with his new MBA, he couldn’t afford to work. He was acting as the stay at home parent with their new child and he was doing so well managing their investment accounts that they would take a big financial hit if he returned to work. What a position to be in!

What a position to be in! Thank you. I certainly don't expect my accounts to earn 10 percent yearly, that'll be too much. But yes, it feels good to reach this milestone and I'm sure interest generated will help me a lot. It feels like a dream to me

That's great news, Ava, and very impressive. In a little over 4 years, you built your 401(k) from $0, to $100K? Wow! You deserve to celebrate. Do something nice for yourself today.

But you can average 10%, or close to it, over several years. Especially if you have a year like a few years ago. I made 24% on my primary 401K account. Even the professional financial advisors, who were more conservative, generated gains in the 17% - 18% range. It’s just a question of how much volatility you can accept. And whether you are watching close enough to take advantage of the opportunities the come up once in a while.

The first 100K is the hardest. Took me 15 years!
