lives in Hartford, Ct.....My next door neighbor of many years ago attended the circus that day...t6ook hours before his parents knew he survived...No cell phones...streets crowded with first responders and all... Just a few years ago the identity of a little girl whose face was unmarked and her grave was tended to by a retired fireman for years, as a unknown victim and her picture and story was identified yearly in the Htfd Courant.... It was the end of the time of tented presentations by Ringling Brothers...and I believe smaller circus's in the country...also many regulations came into being... I attended a Barnum and Baily tented circus presentation in New Haven...It came in on a circus train at the time and the cars were on a siding next to circus grounds...performers lived on train.....with my dad... I remember he was a bit annoyed with me as my attention was focused on the trapeze folks who were swinging about during acts on the ground...No idea why performing while acts were going on on the ground...possible just warming up...I was a youngster at the time possible 7/8.....funny what one remembers...Remember there was a old Gorilla in a cage ..can't remember it's name very famouse...today it would never be allowed to have to live in such conditions...cramped small cage... -------------------------------------------------- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gargantua_(gorilla)================================== www.courant.com/community/hartford/hc-news-hartford-circus-fire-memorial-20190707-zbl5ktcwwfa3dcoxlx5zm3v2mu-story.html--------------------------------------------------------------- Another Circus fire story.... -------------------------------- www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-news-living-survivors-of-the-hartford-circus-fire-20190627-vrr7uu2qibdljky5da3qo66yr4-story.html

I remember the story about Little Miss 1565 being published every year in the Springfield Union newspaper.
My dad lost several friends in the 1942 Boston Cocoanut Grove night club fire which claimed 492 lives. Dad spoke of them and the fire every once in a while. Dad was a student at Tufts (College) University at the time of the fire.

My Mom and Dad told me of a young man who worked for my dad as a clerk...he , Dad, was a store manager...very nice young man who also lost his life in that Coconut Grove fire...a side story on that young man....dad was questioned regarding a raise he gave the young man by home office...his reply was better a small raise then someone tempted to steal...he never heard any more...Dad was considered the chains trouble shooter...sent to stores having problems..told to me by my Mom who also worked for him...told me she had to pay for sample cosmetics that manufactures would leave at store...Dad played no favorites...
