Dark in order to claim exempt you would need to make a really small amount. If my memory serves me it is under $4000 a year.
At that low an income they would be claimed as a depend ant on someone Else's, their parents I would assume, tax return. You can only get the EITC if you are a head of household and the numbers for a single without kids is an income less than maybe $17K a year but they also have minimums too. That is how the program encourages work. Anything below that amount and the credit goes down and pretty sharpley when you get that low till it is zero.
I can't think of a legitimate reason other than someone over 65 to claim exempt on their W-4. Then again if it is not a large amount the IRS might actually not notice for a while.
I would think they would be even madder at the business.

Most of us only worked 15-20 hours a week. Minimum wage at the time was $5.25 I think. So at 15 hours a week you'd make $4,095 annually, and at 20 you're only up to $5,460. Within a month or two we were making over minimum wage, but only a dime or so, not several dollars.
In a country where half the working population has a zero or negative income tax liability you don't honestly think fast food workers are paying taxes do you? They're about as low as you can get on the hours and pay ladder, well in terms of legal wages anyway.

The government should not be telling people what to eat. If you honestly think fast food is even a minor reason why health care is out of control you're off your rocker. Insurance and pharmacuetical companies are way more responsible.

healthcare costs are out of control because of how easy it is to sue doctors and other healthcare professionals. In some cases malpractice insurance for the year can equal half of a doctor's earnings, and sometimes more. If we made it harder for people to sue doctors, healthcare costs would go down. And I'm not talking about cases of obvious negligence/incompetence - I'm talking about when the doctor tells you there's a 30% risk of death for a surgery, you get it and die, and your family sues the doctor/hospital.

We should all move to the farm. Life is better as a farmer. The work is easy. You don't have to drive to work. obviously written by someone who has never done any farm work before.

Tort reform is a Republican ruse......and I'm a republican. Tort reform would actually do very little. And I'm sure you'd love those limits when your arm is mistakenly removed instead of your baby being delivered? Baloney!

I think I only really approve of the government banning or limiting certain food items if they provide (or subsidize) said food. For example, food stamps - I think there should be set things people can and can't buy with them, if the gov't is that concerned about healthy eating. I'm not saying the government shouldn't be concerned with healthy eating... it's the same with kids in schools - if the school is a public school, I am all for them limiting what is served. But for a person choosing what food to spend their money on (food stamps don't count), let them be idiots & buy whatever the hell they want. If they feed their kid Mickey D's 5x a week well, that's their own decision. I do understand the issue of medicaid/medicare and obese peoples' costs for care, but I don't know what can be done about that..

Pig, you conveniently missed where I said I wasn't referring to cases of gross negligence - I'd classify amputation instead of baby delivery gross negligence, wouldn't you?

Dunno I never had one, personally. Seriouly, tort reform is a joke. By far insurance is the biggest contributor to rising health care costs.
