I'm finally in the department that has been trying to get me the last couple of years. Found out friday that I'll sign paperwork on Monday. I am getting more money, but don't know how much yet. I was just told they were taking money from the person that left the department last and splitting it between me and someone else. Even though this is a step up in my career it will be less work than what I do now and I'll be able to get away with doing a couple of days of work from home permanently. So I'll be happy even with just a few thousand more. This will get me the experience to be able to get a job making more elsewhere if I don't feel like I'm paid fairly. I'm at 82.5k now and I think low to mid 90s is fair. they've always been good with money. My first internal promotion I got a 10% bump which was 6.5k, my second I got 10k, and I know when my friend came to this department they gave him 5k (he was making 90k though).
I'm happiest about leaving behind the long hours I was having to do to keep up with everything. I'm going to be working with a good group of people, and we are getting to create a new product. I'm excited.

Congratulations! Does this help your commute (aside from working from home sometimes)?

Fantastic ………. congrats How is your furbaby doing? … He's still hanging on. More frequent digestion issues, but otherwise is happy. I think some of his need to get up in the middle of the night is from me feeding him very late. I'm looking to get back to a place where I can feed him by 6pm. And I'm going to buy a baby gate so I can keep him in the master bathroom.

Congratulations bobosensei . Will this help your life work balance. absolutely. Talked to my new supervisor who did the role I am currently in as well as the one I am going to and agreed that it is much less work. We don't see me working regular 10 hour days with no lunch break anymore. We have a few meetings next week and he will help me get adjusted to things. He's also taking on responsibility for what I currently do and will train the replacement. They didn't let him interview the lady coming in behind me so I think he wants to make sure he's the one setting the expectations.

Congratulations! Does this help your commute (aside from working from home sometimes)? Commute times range 40-80 minutes depending on time of day. I'll maintain the ability to come and go when it is closer to 40 minutes except a few days a quarter when we have meetings that are 8-5. Working from home a minimum of 2 days a week will be huge for me. Once I am settled I'll add a third day every other week so that I'm working from home half the time. Long term I think I'll try to end up closer to the place where my job is. Tech jobs are prevalent there so likely even if I leave this company I'll still be working in the same part of town. It was just I couldn't afford to buy a home there. it was 300k for a house 50 years old with much needed maintenance (roofs and acs etc) or 500k for anything else. And I was looking in the under 300 range. If things keep going well for me in a few years I would be able to move back there unless housing prices continue to go crazy.
