The decision to move Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman who was sentenced earlier this year to nearly seven years in prison in connection with two federal cases, from the decent federal prison to which he was sentenced to solitary confinement to the dangerous hell hole that is New York City’s Rikers Island seems abusive and possibly illegal. link Sucks to be him. Maybe if more white collar criminals had this experience, it would be more of a deterrent than sending them to "decent" places.

Well, at least they're keeping him by himself in protective custody.
NY state is moving against Manafort with their own criminal charges, because they want to make sure that Trump can't pardon Manafort for the federal charges and let him skip free. So Manafort gets to sit at Rikers while the state assembles their tax fraud case against him, which might result in a decades long sentence against him - a state sentence, so he won't be serving it in a nice federal pen.
Yes it does suck to be him, especially because he did what he did to help his good buddy, Trump, who is now riding high, rubbing elbows with British nobility and representing the US at the D-Day commemorations, even though Trump no doubt participated in the same type of tax fraud Manafort did, he just can't be prosecuted for it (yet) because he's POTUS.
He won't always be POTUS, though.
