North Korea executed its special envoy to the United States Kim Hyok Chol and foreign ministry officials, holding them responsible for the collapse of the U.S.-North Korea summit in Hanoi, a South Korean newspaper reported on Friday.

Kim Yong Chol, a senior official who carried out working-level negotiations for the second U.S.-North Korea summit in February, is also said to have been subjected to forced labor and ideological education, the Chosun Ilbo reported.

The North Korean leader is believed to be carrying out a massive purge to divert attention away from internal turmoil and discontent, the newspaper said.

True , there is that and then there is his reputation of murdering his half brother by poison, plus allowing millions of his own people, men, woman, children, die from starvation, plus supposedly having a Uncle not only executed, but having tanks repeatedly run over the body till it was no longer...

I am sure if the Donald ever meets him again and asks him if any of this latest frap is true he will be told no , then Donald will tell the media, he asked the man about it...was told never happen so who was he to say different...Thats our Donald.

And in NK, if your family member commits a crime against the state, they round up you and your extended family members and put all of you in a concentration camp for 3 generations.

Apparently, there is 'civil unrest' in NK right now, which is why Kim feels the need to start executing people - my sincere hope is that the NK minions finally figure out Kim isn't a god and rise up against him and the military establishment that keeps the peasants in a chronic state of poverty and starvation.

During the winter Olympics held in S Korea...there was a tv segment that was shot in N Korea...near border....interviews with populace, and granted supervised but populace think of this family as "divine"...cult like....decades of propaganda has done this...not changing so fast...

As far as the meetings between Donald and others...if it keeps the heat down...I'm for it....it's not like they are attacking anyone beyond the rhetoric...S Korea seems to feel that way...pay off some one with aid to keep from a war that will cost thousands of their own peoples lives and hugh destruction...took them decades to build country up to where it is now...don't want to lose all that..Guess they can afford it compared ton cost of a conflict even one that they win and to unite the country and be responsible for the poverty and ignorance of their Northern relations...Germany had a big problem after wall came down and that was with a very educated skilled  to assimilate...Northern Korea population nothing like that.

I don't expect them to ever give up their Nucs and with our battle with China now...doubt we could look to them to hold the North down...no reason for them to help us now ...IMHO of course.

I had a thought...last summit with the Donald was quite a while ago...seems executions were almost immediately after Air Force One departed...were done on runway of air port....why so long to find out...and then it seems from S Korean sources...who possible held it secret till it seemed it was being found out by civilien investigative reporters , ....Wonder how good our contacts on espionage of the North really is...CIA  kind of weak...NSA too...? Reuters had it, they tend to be pretty scrupulous - and they did add in a caveat that in the past, when people were supposedly executed in NK, they sometimes turned up later in a different, much reduced government position. But this was supposedly done in March so you'd think they would have resurfaced by now, unless they're deep in the bowels of some prison. 

So I would guess this is as accurate as anything can be coming from a paranoid, ultra secret society.

It's a horrible society. I don't usually hope for chaos and anarchy for any country, but if the NK's could somehow manage to get Kim's head on a pike displayed in the middle of their capital city, it would go a long way to dispel the myth that he's a demi-God.

Then maybe they can merge back with SK (although SK doesn't want them) and the poor citizens can stop living like feudal serfs.

Yes, its still up today and on Bloomberg and reuters.  I imagine something has happened, this may not be the actual happening.  But trump getting up and walking out on Asians would have to be seen as the ultimate insult and would reflect on them to kim.  It even said in one of the articles his sister is in quasi hiding out of the picture.  Wouldn't trump be in hog heaven if he could do things like this.  And his base would be salivating.

NK has been a problem no one can solve for decades. I don't really fault Trump for not solving it, either, but I do fault him for thinking he could become best friends with Kim if he flatters him. That just elevates Kim's status to his countrymen, and in the region, he if can claim to be pals with the POTUS.  

Kim grew up in a cut throat environment where it was ok to kill your relatives in order to insure your own survival - we can't expect him to behave like a normal national leader would, and I don't think we (or anyone else) should ever trust him, or any member of the ruling military class. Their only goal is to retain power, because they know if it ever slips in the smallest bit, they would be destroyed by their countrymen.

And no, I don't think we should intercede and take him out, or bomb him pre-emptively. I think we have to let Japan and SK, the two countries with the most to lose from a war with NK, set the regional policy for us, with the obvious understanding that we would flatten NK if they decide to try to bomb us or one of our allies in the region.

I don't blame Trump for not being able to "fix" NK, but I do blame him for buddying up to an enemy, and going along with Kim in insulting our past VP, while on NK soil. Nobody expected him to fix anything, but we were all really hoping he might be "presidential" about it. Now we know he is not capable of that....in any way, shape, or form.

I don't blame Trump for not fixing NK either.  I doubt even the gods themselves can fix that situation at this point.

I do think he's has zero diplomatic skills and that he has treated this whole thing like an episode of his reality TV show.   He should rightly have to eat crow over the fact that nothing has been accomplished except two blow hards waiving their penises in the air.

It saddens me that people think that Trump is how we should conduct ourselves when it comes to international relations.   I don't think we should do anything about NK, we've messed around enough in that region IMHO, but we certainly have done no favors when it comes to our relations with our allies in the area.   You never know when you might need them and flipping the bird because "We're 'Meric F*ck yeah!" should not be our approach.

Yes, I think he would never use his nuclear weapons. Killing his own minions increases his power, using a nuclear weapon would end his power.

I don't think he has the inventory nor the ability to strike out at all the big powers at once, but going after one of us turns the wrath of the others on him. He would lose. But the threat? He's the head of a piss poor country who would otherwise go completely unnoticed. He has to periodically do something to get attention on the world stage, and to ensure he gets some free stuff in exchange for not blowing anyone up.

Our best bet is that his own people finally realize what's up. I was watching a news program that showed NK restaurants in China - owned and operated by the NK, with employees who are required to turn all their wages back to the NK government. But every time one of those workers goes back home to NK with stories about what life is like in China compared to life in NK, and how China has other programs and channels on their TV's other than military parades and propaganda news,  and how NK really isn't constantly at war with the US (like they've been told) I hope that plants the seed of discontent that will ultimately bring that evil government down.

while losing face in the opinion of most of the region, if for no other reason that he has affirmed the supposed "superiority" ok Kim by traveling toward him BOTH times. Never neglect the cultural sensitivities of the societies you are dealing with; in most of Asia it is the lesser person/ the least important one that does the traveling for major meetings → that would be djt in this case.

Perhaps Canada should slap the USA with tariffs, because IT'S not doing enough to stop illegals from the USA into Canada.
