Not arguing the guy isn't a hero - he totally is. I'm not well versed in the history of the two awards beyond the general, but it seems like it fits considering he was ROTC. But how fucked up is it that a college shooting counts as a battle now? And even more fucked up that we're doing not a thing to stop every school from being a battle ground. School shootings aren't a problem, but here's an award given to those in battle.
Riley Howell, a 21-year-old Army ROTC cadet, earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his actions April 30 when a gunman opened fire in his classroom. Howell and 19-year-old Ellis Parlier were killed in the attack.
