Caravan of Americans' cross into Canada just to get affordable insulin A self-described “caravan of Americans” with Type 1 diabetes travelled into Canada over the weekend to get dramatically cheaper, life-saving insulin. And they say this won’t be the last time they cross the border. "We're on a #CaravanToCanada because the USA charges astronomical prices for insulin that most people can't afford," tweeted diabetes advocate Quinn Nystrom, who documented the group’s trip online. <snip> The hashtag is widely associated with a campaign from the national advocacy group, T1 International. On their website, they say the price of insulin in the U.S. has skyrocketed by more than 1,100 per cent -- based on figures from Truven Health Analytics, which provides data to health-care organizations. www.ctvnews.ca/health/caravan-of-americans-cross-into-canada-just-to-get-affordable-insulin-1.4415683

Our healthcare system is broken, and is only getting worse. Profit is king. And to some, it doesn't matter that some people who truly need help aren't getting it. Talk about selling your soul to the devil.
My Dad has been gone for many years, but he used to order some of his prescription medications from Canada. Despite the belief that some of the fear-mongers push that medication from outside of the USA might not meet standards, Dad never had any problems with his meds.

Ha! You missed the best part weltschmerz. Once all but the richest diabetics are dead, we will use that as proof that socialized medicine is far inferior to the wonderful capitalist version here. Just look at the higher incidence of diabetis in Canada, must be caused by something right? You can't fix stupid, and we won't fix greed

It's not just insulin that people are going to Canada for. Senior citizens have been going for years. The snafu, if I remember correctly, the patient has to have a Canadian doctor to write the prescription.

Americans don't need a prescription to buy insulin in Canada.
