Friday evening and you are posting here? You are at least middle aged. Done posting for the evening by 10 local time? You are past middle aged. Eh. Rotating shifts put me on all kinds of awkward hours. I have to check my phone or watch for the day/time frequently.

I get carded at the grocery store every time a buy a bottle of generic over-the-counter cough medicine. And I'm about 28 years older than you. The checkout clerk has to enter my DOB into the register before (s)he can continue scanning my groceries. this place doesn't have to card everyone. let me have my moment, dammit! Sorry. I didn't think about that. Maybe they card me because at 68, my face looks like this:

I still get carded the day or 2 after I dye my gray hair away. If I didn't dye my hair at all I'd probably get senior discounts! I turn 47 in a few weeks.

After getting fined and shut down for a few weeks, owners here told their staff to card everyone.

Dad doesn't buy alcohol but I have wondered if those places with that policy would card a 95 year old? He doesn't have a current photo ID.

You can’t buy beer or wine at our Wegmans or Price Chopper without showing ID. I was actually refused at price Chopper because I Left my license in my pants pocket the night before. Crazy policy as there is no question that I’m over 21. I was told it is mandatory for everyone so it takes judgment out of the process

I just came back from the grocery store, and as I posted earlier, I was carded for beer (I'm a young looking 72 ). Like Miss T said it takes the question and any arguing out of the transaction.

The last I knew Tennessee had a state law that everyone is carded. My 70+ year old grandparents had to show ID. Grandpa was unhappy at having to dig his ID out.
I've had a few places fuss about a temporary license. Both states I've been licensed in mail the real ID compliant ones. They aren't printed at the DMV. You have a temporary piece of paper until then. I didn't try to fly on it. I just took my passport.

I turn 40 this year, and I started feeling physically older last year.

Last year I finally had the opportunity when carded to say “we’ll let my kid show their ID”.

We got carded a few years ago at the café at the Palm Springs Airport. The natural quip was "Compared to most people around here I guess we look like kids!". Server himself was probably in his 70s. He explained that they got into trouble and had to card everyone.
Usually when people card me I ask "Don't my wrinkles count for anything? I earned these things!".

Gees, I am jealous, I bought a 12 pack of beer( My years supply) the other day, at the self serve register, the screen called for the attendant to check my I.D.,, I whipped out my I.d. only to have the kid attendant, say you wish,,,

I also will never marry again, as hubs said just hire a handyman! I agree, but I would miss hubs terribly, he was gone so many years, its nice to have him here most of the time. Sometimes I get aggravated. but 95% of the time he is good to have around. I can't imagine trying to learn about someone again and particularly their financial health. I am not about to take the chance of giving up what we have and our comfortable retirement. Marriage - selecting the person you are going to be annoyed with for the rest of your life

You can stay middle age until you get your first senior citizen discount. Or the nurse at the doctor's office tells you you're "spry" for your age.....

I was told it is mandatory for everyone so it takes judgment out of the process I asked at Price Chopper, and the cashier said they have to enter a birth date into the register before the register will allow the sale to go through. I don't think they have to scan it or anything, but I think it's the store policy it has to be verified. You'd think that the Price Chopper rewards card would also have that info. But I guess anyone could use that......

Same here and I'm OLD. But it's law and doesn't bother me. I have asked "do I have to say it out loud?" if they don't ask for ID and just ask for birthdate to key into register. I blurt it out and follow with "hey, I'm proud I've made it this long"

Ugh! That doesn't work for me. I was recently at the local grocery store, and I got the senior citizen discount of 5% off, and she didn't even ask me. That hurt, since I don't yet qualify, but maybe I should be happy about it, being a good YMer & all... and I got carded for a bottle of wine yesterday, at 40. the guy looked surprised when the license came back as a good scan with that birthdate on it, I'll take it Most bars here card everyone even with walkers. That way when the PD does spot checks, the door man and business are cleared.

I haven't really felt old till a couple years ago when I started having more feet and other issues. I'm doing ok a lot of days. I'm doing better now as I'm getting more active with summer coming on. I've been up and down the stairs a bunch and that helps me get stronger. I will keep upping my physical activity and that will make me feel even better. And next winter, I'm not letting myself get so out of shape, hard to come back the older I get.
Today, had to take arthrotec and hydrocodone, but it was my back and I'm ok now. We agreed to reduce my dosage to 1 tab a day, I don't use that most of the time, but sure not going to try doing without it completely. They are pleased at pain management I have reduced my dosage twice from 3 to 1 a day, said I'm obviously not coming just to get more and more pain killers. They said if I required a higher level of pain control, just let them know.

I don't feel old, but I just traded in my sporty little car for a compact SUV, so I think I am there.
