If we hide the past we run the risk of repeating it instead of learning from it.

Nothing should be banned. Things should absolutely be shown as they originally were. It doesn't mean that the current society will find them funny or even slightly entertaining. Some shows/movies hold up and some don't...that is just the evolution of society. I remember my mother talking about how "scary" Rosemary's Baby was but when I eventually saw it, at the age of 26, I didn't find it even remotely scary. I still love the original Halloween but when I watched it with my niece she thought it was the most boring thing ever produced.
I recently watched all six seasons of Good Times. I still believe it is a good show. A lot of the "issues" are still relevant today even though it is a show from the 1970's. It holds up IMHO.
And don't get me started on how absolutely stupid I think shows like The Bachelor are today...how in the world this shit is still on television is totally beyond me.

From the white guy who wasn’t portrayed as a second class citizen Swamp, riddle me this. Who went to see these movies promoting sexual tension on the big screen? Your mamma and aunts! I strongly suspect many of the women and LGBTQ people (and maybe the people who love/know someone who was LGBTQ) kind of cringed quietly at some of the scenes when those "old time" movies first came out. Or maybe I'm just weird. I know I would cringe a tiny bit watching "new releases" in the 80's... and yeah, the movie was good or fun... there wasn't anything I could do about the cringeworthy bits. They were either expected or "just the way things were". It didn't mean I didn't cringe. Or that I didn't enjoy parts of the movie/TV show.

I didn’t have an issue with MASH, Threes Comoany of any of the shows of that era. I did watch re-runs of the honeymooners and while I laughed at Ralph threatening to send Alice “to the moon”, I never thought it was supposed to represent real life.

I never thought it was funny when Ralph was threatening to hit his wife. I also never really enjoyed Ricky keeping poor Lucy locked in the house when she so desperately wanted to go do something.

Rosemary's Baby was scary in its time. I remember when Midnight Cowboy was released back in 1969. It was then X-rated. Unheard of for a major studio picture. In our city there was a weekly Catholic newspaper. Surprisingly, the newspaper said that even though it was X-rated, it recommended adults see it as it was an important movie. Watching the movie today it seems pretty tame compared to mire recent fare and the rating was changed long ago to a R rating.

After seeing Rosemary"s Baby I went home and took a good look at my 2 yr old and thought Hmmmm that explains it
And I remember Midnight Cowboy and people getting all up in arms about it. I was more fascinated by the fact that I couldn't believe it was Dustin Hoffman playing the part since he was so different from part in The Graduate and thought "now that's super good acting on his part"

Banned and not shown aren't the same thing. Banned implies a government or governing body of some sort puts out a law or edict that if you show something, there will be punishments. Not shown means that someone at some corporation looked at their market and said "Will this cause us to make more money or make less money?" And decided not showing it was more profitable.
