Hello YMers, I have not been around much the past year or two, so just wanted to give you an update. I sold my house; escrow closed last week. I have been living in a very rural area for the past 16 months, in a travel trailer on beautiful property SO owns. I commute 22 miles to work, which takes 40 minutes in good weather. (No traffic, just narrow twisty-turny mountain roads). I give myself an hour plus when there is snow on the ground. With the house sold, my responsibilities and financial concerns have just plummeted. I am turning 52 this week. I have another 4-6 years to work, I think. Then SO and I plan to hit the road.

Congrats and Happy Birthday. I think you were in CA. Are you still here or have you moved?

We are still in CA. Same county as South Lake Tahoe. Thank you!

Good to see you! I'm glad you're enjoying your new lifestyle. How's the snow been? Were you affected by last summer's wildfires?

Good to see you! I'm glad you're enjoying your new lifestyle. How's the snow been? Were you affected by last summer's wildfires? We seem to get a lot of snow in February, but not much the rest of the year. We are about 100 miles from the Paradise fire, much further from the Camp fire. We did have a few small fires in the area, but they were quickly contained. There was a week or so with thick smoke in the air, but most of the state suffered the same. I really do enjoy the beauty of the area and the slower pace of life. I don't know that I would have chosen this area had SO not already owned the property, but it seems to have worked out just fine. I did OK on my house, too. I got 2x my down payment out of it, plus reimburse myself for the new roof, HVAC, etc. There was a time I would have had to cough up 80k or so to give it away.

I loved Lake Tahoe. It reminded me of home. We went there several times and stayed at Harvey's.

Did you have a big adjustment living in a travel trailer? We have several friends who have done this at retirement but I don't think I could live in a travel trailer for an extended time

But, we bought a regular mattress for the bed (regular size king) and had an on-demand hot water heater installed. Those two things go a long way. During spring, summer, and early fall, we spent most of our time outside. We put up a big tent canopy thing, plus we have the attached awning, and had a nice grill, a table and chairs, and two zero-gravity camp style recliners outside. We are set up just a few feet from a creek so the water gurgles along. It was lovely. I hope to be moving in to a simple 1/1 768 sq ft house soon, which will feel like a spacious mansion by comparison.

Thanks for checking in. I've always wondered, too, what living in a travel trailer would be like. Now that we're living "down South", we find we're spending more time outside, too.
