Just some observations this morning since it contains politics kept it off the other threads.
I'm down this morning, not sure why. Well, yes, I'm letting all this political stuff get to me plus more. I'm sad seeing so many people embrace such hatred, normally decent people.
Listening last night to some school teachers and the problems they are having with students. We were talking about seeing e learning taking hold, I asked what do kids do that don't have internet? One of the teachers in our group is well liked, they said when it happens he lets 10 to 12 kids come to his house to use his internet service. In our discussion we are realizing that this is creating an even bigger class difference for the now and future of the haves and have nots. An engineer with new employees he gets that do not know how to work or get to work on time. We were talking about Canada embracing Indian investment companies and employees that are now afraid to come here. They don't know what is going to happen from day to day, other countries too. Canada is embracing them and the stronger for it.
I'm embarrassed for our country trying to go backwards, going religious nuts, we are sounding more and more like a 3rd world country. And I still am in disbelief, as I keep saying of people embracing the politics when its even causing farmers to go bankrupt.
I hear on the news how great we are doing in the economy. We may have more jobs but are they paying enough to live? Then I open our local paper and see more and more people having their houses foreclosed on. I couldn't believe how many and all the people locally getting sued by our hospital. They have no health insurance. I can't believe we are an isolated instance on all this
All the people locally that have lost their jobs in retail with nowhere to get another. Now I'm hearing this morning that Payless is filing bankruptcy again and closing stores so another. Everyone takes jobs with it. You see all this glowing stuff on TV and I find it hard to believe when I feel like the other shoe is about to drop.
I rarely if ever let this stuff get to me, but it has this morning. So many of us last night do not like the direction our country is taking. But its nothing we can do. Our group has a number of good people, we all try to do what we can for our community, but listening to all this last night makes you feel like we are but a drop in an ocean.
I honestly think we could end up in a total depression by the end of the next 2 years and that is more disturbing to me. I go by vibes and gut feelings and usually am right. And right now all the bells and whistles are screaming at me. I am not optimistic, we will be fine but I like to see everyone do well too.

Hang in there, countrygirl2. Sometimes we need a break from all the negative stuff happening around us. See if there is something else you can watch, read, or do which will bring you some peace for a while. It is going to get worse before it gets better. But it will get better.

Maybe you could volunteer at a charity for a few hours? That usually makes me feel better about life and human beings in general.
I'm cursed with being an optimist - the person rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic as she goes down. I think it's because I grew up in a family where my mom and 2 of my siblings spent a good deal of time feeling as though their lives were tragedies (they were not) - it's made me reflexively optimistic even when things seem to be going to shit.
To me, I feel like the nation is gradually waking up from a stupor. People are realizing the emperor has no clothes, we've pissed off our allies and trading partners, refused to help rein in our enemies and the economy is precariously positioned for a big recession. We haven't achieved a single significant positive milestone in the last two years. Trump no longer seems to have the ability to frighten all the GOPers in congress to toady to him. No one seems interested in working for him in the WH anymore, not even the reliable suck up Chris Christie. If he was Captain Hook in Peter Pan, all the lawsuits and investigations circling him and his business are ticking very loudly, getting ever closer, and Trump's not going to be able to continue to evade them.
I don't know when change will come, or what form it will take, but something's going to happen. We won't be locked in this death spiral with our grimy POTUS forever. Almost anything after that will seem better.

I totally feel ya! The world just gets more depressing every day, its why I drink so much beer.
I've been in a funk all day too, as I read this morning that a well known, and well liked, homeless man in my city froze to death in his tent earlier this week. We had a cold spell the past few days, and he had no where to go. What's even worse, is that the comments on the article were just a bunch of dems and pubs blaming each other for the homeless problem. Its like they completely forgot that a man had lost his life in a totally unnecessary way!
Aaaaand now I need a beer.

And I am also predicting at least another recession in the next 2-3 years. I've been telling everyone I know who is looking to buy a house to wait a few years. Another correction is on the horizon.

Then we only have religious freedom if you are Christian? These local yokels will be over the moon on that one, right up their bigoted alley. Part of it is my foot issues limiting me, part the weather. But the other is we are losing so many businesses here its depressing. Not much to do. DD used to like to go to the movies with me, she doesn't even like that any more. Hubs is working on the last rent house and he doesn't want to talk. I honestly think its bothering him too, he has no one to "hang" with either. He thought he would with his former best friend. I warned him before he came back that would not happen, the world changed in all those years. And the friend ended up with cancer . He is better but still not able to do much. We have a beautiful home and in summer a lot to do. But nothing else to do here, its depressing and driving me up the wall. And to do or join anything I have to drive at night, we are 12 miles from anything on secondary state roads. I don't see that well to drive at night and at 72 don't need to be out in snow and ice if I don't need to be, so very rarely go anyplace at night. I would love to move closer to a city. But our nearest one seems to be declining rapidly. Many places have to be with all the store closings, sure you can shop online, but nice to interact with people.

The man has paid the price for his crime. So be it. And I also accept members of the religious community must also be employees of the state prison system to be in the same room as the prisoner being put to death. So hire a Muslim cleric as a member of the state prison system. Problem solved. Just do it.

"For a court that cannot bear the thought of a religious baker forced to frost a cake in violation of his spiritual convictions to be wholly unaffected at the prospect of a man given last rites by a member of another faith borders on staggering. The court that had no problem with a transparently anti-Muslim immigration ban, promised and performed as an anti-religious measure, looks more and more like it has two standards for protecting religious liberty." slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/02/domineque-ray-alabama-execution-imam-first-amendment-scotus.html
Waiting for the "I voted for dt because I wanted him to control the next S/C nomination" contingent to chime in here and defend this decision. And just so you know, I am not interested in arguments about emails, Bengazi, or other like defenses. Tell me why YOU think this is good/just or even in keeping with the first amendment!

I get down too, so what I do is that I use my Saturday nights and Sundays to relax. I put my phone away and avoid all news outlets. I nap, read, watch Netflix or in the summer time I go hang out by the pool with Cheetos and beer. I think this administration is bad for my mental health so I take steps to avoid the BS.

So hire a Muslim cleric as a member of the state prison system. Problem solved. Just do it. If they want to hire a Christian chaplain, then they need to hire a Rabbi, an Imam, and whatever other religion is followed by the prisonets. Or just fire the chaplain
