I remember the 1978/1979 freeze of lake michigan.
It put a stop to the massive lake effect snows in the Chicago area that year at the last part of winter.
Turned off the snow machine like a light switch.

Actually, one of the signs of global warming is seeing more extreme weather. It isn't just higher average temperatures, which we are also experiencing. And, another sign of global warming is the insects that used to be only found in certain areas are moving further north. Just thought you'd want to know...

Lake Michigan for the most part freezes almost half way, in normal years, and more in extreme weather. Nothing really new. In some ways, it is a good thing because it stops winter evaporation lowering the lake level which sometimes is a problem if the midwest has a dry spring and summer season. It does hurt the ecology of the lake if it gets too warm in the summer.

And Australia had their hottest month on record. What's your point?

And Australia had their hottest month on record. What's your point? It could be that the length of time that people have been keeping records of temperatures, is like a nanosecond (or less) when considering the age of the planets climate. Also; "You can look at the climate as fractals, that is, patterns or structures that repeat in smaller and smaller versions indefinitely. If you are talking about 100-year storms, are there then 100 years between them? - Or do you suddenly find that there are three such storms over a short timespan? If you are talking about very hot summers, do they happen every tenth year or every fifth year? How large are the normal variations? - We have now investigated this," explains Peter Ditlevsen, Associate Professor of Climate Physics at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen. The research was done in collaboration with Zhi-Gang Shao from South China University, Guangzhou in Kina. Read more at: phys.org/news/2016-03-climate-variations-million-years.html#jCp

I bet you all miss Global Warming!!
the California wildfires destroyed 11,000 residences and killed over 100 people.
some cold weather would be welcome out here.

You're alarmingly ignorant on the topic of climate change and weather extremes......just like Trump. Little wonder that Trump said he loves the poorly-educated. Par for the course.

Turned off the snow machine like a light switch. I grew up on the north side of Lake Michigan (Hello fellow Yoopers!!) and went to Michigan Tech so got to watch the wonder that is Lake Superior. It snowed everyday in the Keweenaw and I remember in 1994 about this time that Lake Superior froze over enough (not completely) that it stopped snowing. We called it the Siberian Blast or something like that, not Polar Vortex.

Ok, OK, OK, I think I have it now,, It is colder cause it is hotter,, Or was that it is hotter cause it is colder,, Hmmmmm?? We can fix everything by paying a carbon tax,, Ok, Does that keep it from getting colder,,,
Hmmmmm, the if carbon causes Global Warming then why is it with all carbon, from all those heaters, fireplaces, stoves, power plants pumping out all that carbon cause you are cold,,,,,
does not stop it from being cold?? With all the arctic ice that was going to be gone by 2012,,, what did it do slide down into Canada, and the Northern part of the U.S.?? Almost every day, there is a report of this glacier is collapsing,, that one is almost melted this one is falling off the edge, and how Antarctica ice is melting at zero degrees Fahrenheit!! With all that ice that has melted,, all those poor polar bears dying, Although they did have a zebra freeze to death here, how come Miami is not completely under water now?? I mean with all the reports, of the ocean is up a couple of inches,,, couple of more inches,, a couple more inches,, it should be like 25 foot deep by now!!

My God, what was I thinking?? You clearly know far, far more than professors of environmental studies! Who knew we had such an expert in our midst? Well, I'm sold! Paradoxically, extreme cold spells could become more frequent as the Arctic warms along with the rest of the planet. "Arctic warming leads to a weaker jet stream, which leads to more extreme winters," Kanter said. So the notion that global warming would "rescue" us from cold weather extremes — something President Donald Trump alluded to in a recent tweet — is misguided. As Kanter put it, "We're going to see more extremes as the climate continues to warm." www.msn.com/en-ca/weather/topstories/watch-the-polar-vortex-shift-ominously-in-view-from-space/ar-BBT4ipT?li=AAggNb9

We called it the Siberian Blast or something like that, not Polar Vortex. Polar vortex is relatively new, along with the less new arctic outbreak. Came into use as a buzzword for the laity, when efforts to start carbon exchanges as a new tax, got started. Carbon exchange failed in the U.S. But the meteorologist term hangs on.

You mean no one was able to navigate the Northwest passage without ice breakers before Global Warming?
Do you mean if it was a little warmer ,we could play a round of golf at the North Pole?
