Well, we finally did it! We got a new TV! I've been having problems seeing what's on the screen of our old TV and can't always even read the captions, so I knew it was time.
We got a 46" Samsung - and I love it! The color is gorgeous.
Any I'm not posting this on YM at all cause they'd flame me good!

Yeah, but they want me to work here too! I'm dying to play some movies to see how they look, but won't have the time until next weekend.

Good for you! It's always fun to get something new, and to improve your leisure time choices. I got a new 42" LG TV for my mother not long ago, as she was having trouble seeing her older TV clearly. She just loves the new one! Congrats to you!

I'm not sure what DH did as far as cables. I know we talked to the TV guy at the Exchange, and bought some cables, so I guess that's what we got.
We also upgraded our cable to include the HD channels although I don't see much of a difference between them and the regular ones. If after I've watched the HD channels some more and still don't see a difference, I may just cancel the HD package, although I do like the variety package we got since we can now get some of the kids programming we didn't get before and with the grandkids over a lot, that'll come in handy on a rainy day.

Yay Anne!!! And LOL - chicken (about not posting it on YM). We have Samsung too, but a little smaller, and I agree with the clear picture and vivid color - It is gorgeous! I have to sit far back because it's almost too much to take in the colors are so bright.

You should see big difference between HD and non-HD channels.
BTW, if you have kids and you just got HD TV, it would be good idea to rent movie "Cars". It's a kids movie, but it has HD calibration software on it, so it will let you adjust your new TV nicely.
Remember, when you bought your TV, it was set on "store" mode. Pretty much everything turned on to the max. Manufacturers do it, so when their TVs are displayed in the store, it pops out next to other TVs.

indebt - That's right - there are channels that are much clearer! We also got HD when we first got ours, but our cable company kepts screwing up and the tv would lose the sound or the screen would freeze at the conclusion at almost every show or movie we watched! I got so fed up with it we got rid of the HD. I agree - it's not as vivid now, but it's still amazing. We also got a 32 or 37? inch for the master bedroom and it's even clearer than the 42 inch! It's about 2 years newer.

You can get free HD channels (local channels only) via roof top antenna or even indoor antenna. Picture will be even better on those channels than going through cable/satellite provider because signal is uncompressed via OTA (Over the air). So in essence, if you are paying a provider to give you HD local channels, you can get them all for free.

Is 50 inches considered a big screen TV?
42" seems pretty big.

That's the same size/brand that my brother brought over today. I thought he said 36" when he phoned, but it's actually 46. He just set it up and left, so now I'm playing with adjusting the sound & color to my liking. Aren't they great??

How do you like it so far? Does that mean you won't be here as much to play with us? Meh - Who am I kidding. There is nothing on TV more entertaining than the goofy EE girls (per MU).

So true - I'm listening to it more than actually watching it right now. But I'm sure that'll change once I pop in a movie to watch.

I'm listening to Harry's Law as I type. Well, it's a commercial now. I usually give it my full attention but I haven't been on much since last Friday and I needed my fix. Did you have a nice birthday today?

Sorry guys and gals - We were really busy at work yesterday and I've been fighting a cold so I didn't log on last night to check this thread. I love the new TV even though I haven't watched it much yet. I did watch a couple shows last night in HD and really noticed a difference. Guy Fieri just popped off the screen - too funny! To answer some of the questions - busymom - Party at my place? OK since it's my b-day this week, but someone else has to bring the cake. And it better be homemade and not from a box! I've got hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and iced tea (sweet and unsweet). How's that for a menu? TD - 46" is about as big as we felt we could go. It has to fit in a specific area of our LR and the bigger ones wouldn't fit. Also, we'd have to get a bigger stand and I didn't save up enough for that. ZaireinHD - unfortunately my computer is upstairs, far away from the TV. DH is looking at getting a new laptop and if he does that can we use his old box that way? Do I have to separate you and POM? LOL - get your minds out of the gutter! Mom said so!
