B.C. family stuck on 9-hour flight with bedbugs ‘pouring’ out of seat, TV VANCOUVER — A British Columbia woman plagued by bedbugs on a nine-hour flight to London is a victim of the explosive growth in the critters globally, but travellers shouldn’t worry they’ll become a common feature on planes, says an entomologist. Heather Szilagyi was on a British Airways flight with her seven-year-old daughter and fiancee Eric Neilson on Oct. 10 when she said they noticed what appeared to be bedbugs crawling out of the seat in front of them. globalnews.ca/news/3815660/british-airways-bedbugs-bc-family/Don't worry, as they'll become a common feature on planes? O great ………. that's all I need on a flight
Sounds like that plane needs to go through that 'radiation cleansing" like they had on the old Star Trek series. That'll get um.

Yuck! I read it as “you should NOT worry that they will become a common feature” because they won’t. But maybe that’s hopeful thinking?

I don't know, but it seems to be happening more and more. Seems to be happening on British Airways, but maybe other instances on other airlines are not being reported.
Bed bugs freak me out. I live in a little cottage, and have never had bed bugs or cockroaches in my little cottage....it's not connected to anything. I've had a few spiders, but they don't bother me. Now that I have to move and go into an apartment, which is shared housing, I'm uncomfortable. I was interested in some nice apartments on Grand Boulevard, but I was warned that they're absolutely infested.

I recently read a suggestion: When traveling by air, after checking into your hotel room put your suitcase in the bathtub for a while (no water, please). If any bed bugs are on there they will scatter and you can kill them (by stomping on them no doubt).

Why would they scatter because the suitcase is in the tub?
I thought the reasoning behind putting your bag in the tub was so you can check the bed for infestations and hopefully keep your bag away from the hotel linens and carpet where you could pick them up. Still seems way less than full proof. Let's assume I'm traveling for work and am using uber, and don't have a car. Now I have to call another uber, find another hotel and go through the whole process.
I hate bugs, but I don't like the over the top recommendations that make people paranoid and don't actually stop the spread of things like this. I'm not going to stop going to the movies, and never buy a used book. I'm not in a climate that is overly prone to bedbugs thankfully, but I know people who have gotten them here too. I really think the thing to do is to get the mattress covers that they can't get in or out of--ideally before you ever have an issue with bed bugs. Then if we did get them, they couldn't get in anything that couldn't be washed or worst case, thrown out.

Your apartment can be spotless but if the ones around you aren’t, you’re going to get them. Poor DD and her roommates found that out the hard way. The complex actually had to evict the people beneath them, fumigate the apartment, and treat everyone else’s because of that one family. I give credit that the complex actually did anything to mitigate what the one family caused everyone else.

When I worked in property management we had a duplex that one side had bed bugs. The family moved the mattresses from the house to the side of the road before we could make sure they left them for us to get someone to pick them up. Someone drove by and got them...

I'm going to assume people want the springs for scrap and aren't actually using the mattress because otherwise 😨
