It's a tremendous shutdown, the best shutdown ever, and of course it is because I, Trump, have done this fabulous shutdown better than anyone has ever done a shutdown.

The federal government of the United States put government workers on furlough and suspended non-essential services from November 14 through November 19, 1995, and from December 16, 1995, to January 6, 1996, for a total of 27 days.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, often Trump's ally in the Senate, proposed that Trump briefly re-open the government in an interview on Sunday.
“I would urge him to open up the government for a short period of time, like three weeks, before he pulls the plug,” Graham said on “Fox News Sunday,” link "Senator Graham, may I be so bold as to suggest that Congress has the power to do that."

Trump's disapproval numbers are soaring. he is now at 55%- his worst number in nearly a year, and the "slope of the curve" is terrifying.

even Rasmussen, a notorious Trump favoring poll, has him at -12 right now. it's really looking not so great for him.
his rating has fallen BELOW that of Pelosi and Schumer. that is also new.

And he has done it all to himself. He could have been diplomatic and saved himself a lot of grief.

I heard a talking head speculating that Trump's problem is he doesn't know how to lose gracefully. He pointed out that when Bill Clinton lost his push to reform healthcare (actually, Hillary's plan) he walked away and moved to something else. Same with other presidents (from both parties) who weren't able to push one of their pet projects across the line. But Trump doesn't know how to do that - he keeps doubling down, even when he and his party are getting the blame for the shutdown, and his poll numbers (and the GOP numbers) are tanking.
I think it's because of his irrational fear of looking weak. All the best generals knew how to retreat when necessary, it's just the narcissistic, delusional ones like Custer who pushed on when all the signs said that was the wrong thing to do.
We need the GOP to find some balls and get with the Dems to over ride Trump's veto to start the government. Enough of trying to placate the pissy toddler.
