Partial shutdown but Pence, others to get raise?!

I am seeing red, so I can only imagine what all the federal workers who are currently going without pay must be feeling.

I believe I heard earlier today pence would voluntarily hold off on the raise until the shutdown was over.  No word about declining his current pay until shutdown over though.

So they are getting a 5.5% pay raise. Trump told the military they will get the first pay raise in 10 years and he asked for 10%. He has no say, they get one every year and it is 2.6 for 2019.

My coworkers were discussing this today. We are fortunate to be one of the funded agencies and this is still ridiculous. Pay raises because no one is stopping them? Another example of government crap that makes no sense.

I was trying to paste a snippet that said that this raised was due to legislation that had frozen pay, but was going to expire because of the shutdown. Wouldn't copy though.

That's right Trump froze the pay of federal workers, but that doesn't include his cabinet or congress.

The raises appear to be a consequence of the shutdown: When lawmakers failed to pass bills on Dec. 21 to fund multiple federal agencies, they allowed an existing pay freeze to lapse. Congress enacted a law capping pay for top federal executives in 2013 and renewed it each year. The raises will occur because that cap will expire without legislative action by Saturday, allowing raises that have accumulated over those years but never took effect to kick in, starting with paychecks issued next week.
