Parted-at-birth twins 'married' A pair of twins who were adopted by separate families as babies got married without knowing they were brother and sister, a peer told the House of Lords. A court annulled the British couple's union after they discovered their true relationship, Lord Alton said. The peer - who heard of the case from a judge who was involved - said the twins felt an "inevitable attraction". He said the case showed how important it was for children to be able to find out about their biological parents. Full story here: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7182817.stm

With all the in vitro fertilizations from donors I wonder if this happens more often than we know.

Does this prove the fact that when to hill-billies get divorced they're still brother and sister?

I know a couple who were cousins and didn't find out till maybe 10 years after they were married. They had already had a couple of kids.
If I can remember it was because one of their parents had gotten into a disagreement with their parents and moved out and never looked back. I think they moved from the east coast to the west coast. The female sibling got married and changed her name. Neither mentioned or not often the sibling that had moved away/ or vice versa to their children.
Twenty some odd years later the kids of the siblings meet I think at college and fall in love. I think by this time some of the grandparents are deceased. They get married and have kids not knowing anything.
Years later one of them is going through some old pictures and the other sees one that looks really familiar. They find out that each of their parents is the others sibling. The kids were all fine and I think they just didn't tell anyone except really close friends and family.
Strangely my parents both had the same last name but were not even a little related. We know this because all 4 of my grandparents emigrated from completely different places in the world. The name is very common for my ethnicity but not in America, so I am sure people if they hear that think that they must have been related.

Anyone know Eleanor Roosevelt's maiden name? But weren't they actually related? Where it gets funky is the people I knew had completely different last names yet they were pretty closely related. My parents had the same last name but weren't related at all. To this day, using Beach as my first name and Bum as my last name, I only refer to the Bum side of my family when talking about my mothers side of the family. ;D Other than my father and grandfather on my fathers side I have never met anyone named Bum so I really don't think of them as Bum's. My mothers side every one is named Bum.

Like Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estavez? But they were raised together and Charlie Sheen took the name Sheen as an adult for acting purposes. His name still is Estavez. No way for confusion there.

Eleanor's maiden name was Roosevelt. She wasn't a close relative, however. Just a distant cousin. My brother's wife didn't have to change her name, either, as they both had the same surname when married, but were not related.

My fiance's mother's maiden name is the same as my mother's. Completely different families, from different countries too. It's one of the most common names in this country though!

My cousin got married to his cousin and they have 2 kids. By the time we all found out: - they have been together 6 years - Had 2 kid - and it was about the time they were getting ready to get married.
So no one rocked the boat and seriously, at that point it really did not matter. Basically his uncle passed away and his widowed wife took the kids and move closer to her family in MA. She did not keep contact with our side of the family and passed away when my cousin wife was in her late teens.
It came out when they were looking at baby pictures to put up for their wedding (they made a slide show showing each other from birth till they got engaged) and she went: Hey, that is my dad. He said: no that is my mom's brother, he passed away when I was 6. Back and forth, etc and yep: his mother was her father sister.
Their wedding was 4 years ago , so they have been together 10 years and both kids are health.
