Those of you that are friends with me of FB know that 2018 was almost a complete shit show of a year for me. Well, I am done thinking about all the things that went wrong and start listing the things that were good. So, in that vein, tell me what happened in 2018 that were positive or good for you.
1. My perfect little grand son was born, and I got to be there to see his birth. 2. I got to go to Italy for 3 weeks in the summer. 3. Goose and I are finishing up the year stronger in our marriage and commitment to each other. 4. We built a house.

1. I got my second grant proposal in 2 years approved, meaning that I raised over $1 million in 2 years for the organizations I worked for. 2. I got an impressive raise due to point #1. 3. I did 3 trips this year that I really enjoyed, Cuba, NB and Toronto for my birthday week. 4. GW is going to college, finally! And doing pretty well with it. 5. ISO and I continue to get along very well.

I am actually even considering submitting my resume for a job there with DoDEA. Toronto....I love Toronto. When I lived in Michigan, we went there often. I haven't been there in many years, but it always brings warm, fuzzy feelings to my soul. Great job GW!!! I am still trying to get my youngest son to sign up for college. He was going to join the military, but then severely broke his foot and needed surgery to have pins and rods put in it. It has taken him a long time to recover, and the military is out of the question for the time being. I am ok with that, but I really want him to sign up for some classes.

Cuba was cheap and fun, 2 things I like in a trip. We stayed at a 3 star hotel right on the strip in Veradaro. The first room we got was awful, but when we complained and got moved we had a really nice room. I liked being able to walk out the front door and being right in Veradaro, the 4 and 5 star resorts took buses to come to our section. The food was no great shakes, but it was edible. The beach and ocean were awesome. The people were nice enough but I always felt they were trying to get stuff from me. That was mainly the hotel staff and I think they have developed that culture that the rich Canadians give them all kinds of stuff. Overall I liked it.

1. Became a grandmother for first time 2. Visited DD, DSIL and granddaughter in Germany 3. No major health issues for family or parents. My Dad is 78 and has incurable cancer that is well managed with modern medicine. He had a good year. 4. Finally settled a lawsuit from 8 years ago from the business we used to own. It was only a $ issue. Settlement was same amount we offered 8 years ago. Glad to get it over with.

Aw, you guys are posting such cool stuff. And that grandbaby is a cutie for the ages! 1. Stayed very healthy all year; DH's health was up and down, but it's good at the moment. 2. Freelance writing going well, and still really enjoying it. 3. Did my first ever cycling time trial - got blown away by people with way better bikes, but I did really enjoy it. 4. Bought the nicest car I've ever owned, with cash I saved thanks to y'all. 5. Other family and friends are still here and still putting up with me.

We became first time grandparents to a beautiful baby girl! Our salaries are highest ever (though we both want to retire). My father had a serious diagnosis but made it through treatment pretty well. We had an amazing trip to Wyoming this past August. Life is good.

Toronto is now inundated with trash pandas. (Just for the record,I think they're adorable) Toronto resident Jenny Serwylo was awoken one September night by loud noises from her kitchen, and discovered three raccoons looking for their next meal. Acting quickly, she was able to shoo away two with a broom, but the third continued about its day. At one point, it scarfed down her English muffins, defiantly staring at her from behind a toaster oven. A months-long investigation into “raccoon-resistant” green bins. Defiantly eating bread in front of a frustrated homeowner. Shutting down part of a subway line for nearly 20 minutes. Toronto has an endless fascination with raccoons, and here’s just a few times they made the headlines in the Star in 2018: www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/%E2%80%98you-have-a-genius-raccoon%E2%80%99-how-toronto%E2%80%99s-trash-pandas-baffled-the-city-in-2018/ar-BBREADA?li=AAggNb9

1. Paid off all my debt except my mortgage and fully funded all my retirement and HSA accounts. 2. Had two house purchases fall through...not my fault. So possibly dodged a couple of bullets and avoided taking on any new debt. 3. No deaths of loved ones or major drama or health issues this year. 4. Survived a natural disaster with no deaths, injuries or major structural damage to my home. 5. Still employed and got a raise. 6. There was quite a bit of sunshine this summer. I got to go out and enjoy it and truly appreciate the beauty of the area I live in.

1. We're all still here and in fairly good health
2. I got out of academia
3. While the first leap from the above ended up being one of the biggest mistakes I ever made, the second leap has turned out much better.
4. DH has been sober for a month going on two

2018 sucked donkey balls. My kids are happy and healthy, I have a very supportive social network, and a thriving business.

I paid off my house. I’m trying to save 1/2 my income. Changed my will. Quit volunteering at the theater and volunteering more at the hospital.

I sold older house for exactly 250k profit. I got my niece and nephew started with Roth IRA. I paid for niece to get a house and she gave me all the money from selling her condo. My brother had a fantastic 50th anniversary party. Iso and i are still together. I think 2019 will be a rebuilding year, no big expenses except taxes.

2018 has not been a good year.
To try to make it better, I've removed some toxic people from my life. That has helped immensely.
DN2's wife became a naturalized citizen.
I am on good terms with my niece and 3 nephews (I think). I love all four.
Lucy Cat is still here and healthy. She brings me great pleasure.

We got a new HVAC and zoned the upstairs. We are finally comfortable upstairs and downstairs.
Spring brought the trial and conviction of the man who murdered two of my family members in 2017.
We got another stamp in our passports. Not sure we'll go back to Mexico anytime soon but we can say we went.
We took several other domestic trips. It was DH's first trip to Myrtle Beach. We went to Nashville for the first time and loved it.
We also went to some good concerts this year.
We are trying to cut back significantly on trips and concerts to pay off debt in 2019 so I'm glad we had a good time in 2018.

DH jumped back to teaching this spring, he was getting bored in industry. Nice jump in pay, to boot. DH has been making progress on getting fitter - began running, tried yoga, joined our newly renovated Y to keep running/yoga/exercising over the winter. He's losing the belly, I've had to get him pants a size smaller, vs the size one size increase he was needing last year. One daughter got married, other daughter moved much closer - same time zone, now, yes! Learned I'm going to be a grandma, too!

I got a large, unexpected raise at work. I got my migraines under control a couple months ago, which has allowed me to re-focus on the rest of my health.
There was plenty of crap in 2018, though I’m trying to let it go and focus on 2019 as a fresh start.

I will THINK they are under control and then I will get 3-4 in the same week that takes an Imitrex and a Maxalt to get down to a dull roar. This reminds me of another thing that was good in 2018. I got my anxiety attacks under control!

We’re in a pretty good place at the moment. All healthy. Good news. DH has been researching stem cellls in regards to autism. We plan on taking Noah down to Panama to the Stem Cell Institute. So this is a good thing for 2018 and a continuation going into 2019. Happy New Year!

We had a few awesome family trips this year - both of my kids got passports so we could attend a wedding in Toronto, and as part of the trip spent a night at Niagara Falls (Canadian side) overlooking the falls. It was my first time there and it was breathtaking. DH had a work trip to Hawaii so we all tagged along for a vacation.
Work is going well for DH and I. I was selected to participate in a BD Academy at work that involved a group project that we presented to our XO group and we rocked it, which was awesome!
My kids are in good health, and are growing and learning and being typical kids, which is to say that there are days I love parenting and days I question why I ever wanted kids. 😉 Thankfully, the good outweighs the bad.
I made a couple of “mom” friends of kids from my son’s kindergarten class. All 3 kids are in different first grade classes this year, but it’s so nice that we text pics of kids and help each other out when one of us is up at the school.

This is a wonderful thread, thank you angel.
In 2018: -everyone I care most about made it out alive. -DH and I have decided to relocate and are working on that. -Got a promotion for work I was already doing, so more $, which, great. -Maxed 401k -went to Hawaii 3x, which means I went scuba diving 10-15x, which is my favorite activity on the planet. -made some personal decisions which haven't come to pass yet but having made them am working towards them.
There were also also terrible things, but those are the good.
