I don't want decorative cushions on the bed or couch. I agree about the bed, but on my couch I like a few throw pillows. I have to have throw pillows on the couch. Sushi insists on sleeping like a human, with his head resting on a pillow. Throw a blanket over him, and he's in heaven.

I only have a love seat. It has 4 decorative cushions. It's at least two too many.
The cushions take up over half of the couch. For anyone to sit on it, the pillows go to the floor. They are taking up space as there is rarely anyone sitting on the love seat.
I bought a new recliner and got rid of the uncomfortable, horrible couch. A full size couch will never be in my home again. I love my recliner and there isn't room for extra cushions--unless you count Lucy.

I have beach towels on the love seat and recliner to protect from Lucy's fur. Towels are easier to wash than to have furniture cleaned.

Thankfully, it had a blanket on it. Not thankfully, the blanket and the poo were the same color and I didn't see it before I sat down. In it. Then, to make things worse, since I didn't know what I had sat in, I put my hand on my butt. Yep, came away with a crappy hand. At that moment, I knew my day would NOT get any worse and that I was going to just roll with it. On the plus side, I wasn't dressed for the day yet. I was in my jammies still.

I'm lucky. So far, Lucy has never gone to the bathroom outside the box and she has only puked on my bed when it comes to furniture. Plenty of times on the carpet and floor, but only the bed.
The puking is yet another reason to protect furniture from pets.

I started working on boxing up the family photos I still have. So far 3 small boxes and a big, plastic bin. Next will be some random stuff in the closets and then fabric.
I would like to recover a few outdoor pillows so I won’t pack up all my fabric yet.
It’s been over 100 degrees here the last 3 days and I am ready for a break. My only reprieve is standing under the sprinklers in the yard when I go out to water the grass.

Dad through a wrench in to DN3 taking his washer and dryer. Nephew had talked to him about it and thought he understood it. When sister talked to him about it yesterday, dad told her that he needs his washer and dryer. At least they get to figure this out, not me.
Dad wants sister to call every day. Like she said, half the time when he hears one of our voices, he says "I'll go to the door" and hangs up. He usually can't hear well enough on the phone to talk to him. She told him she was not going to call him every day.

That's hard Theo. I'm sorry. This week (updated) - pick up package/Thurs
- Ikea/Thurs
- bottle bank/Thurs
The stool I wanted came in so we went to Ikea. We also got a new bath mat (ours was very worn), a new foldable laundry basket (same), underlay for the bedroom rugs, and two outdoor plants.
ETA: Done with the late afternoon/evening teaching for this year!

Indiana forgot it was summer and today's high is only 68.... perfect time to get in the garage to clean up the Hoarder's episode inside. My tally sheet of purged items is going UP UP UP!

TheOtherMe could you tell your dad that DN3 is just storing the washer and dryer for him till he needs it (maybe say he'd be doing you a favor because you don't have enough room/you're clearing out your basement/there's been so much rain?) I generally don't advocate lying, but it seems like a gentle/white lie. It's very unlikely your dad would need them again. At this point you need to do what's best for you, and I'm sure your sister won't object to her son taking (or "borrowing") your dad's appliances. I hope I haven't offended you by suggesting that.
I got the OK for my Amazon return, so I need to do that this weekend. We also plan to continue cleaning up the garden if the weather permits.
This weekend - input summer term marks/Thurs
- work Skype with E/Fri - Amazon return

debthavenDad apparently said that he needs them to do his own laundry. He isn't grasping that my sister will be doing all of his laundry and he won't have to do it any more. I will let it sit. DN3 is going to talk to him again on Sunday. I will tell him whatever DN3 and sister want me to tell him, even though he won't remember it 5 minutes later. Dad's upset right now that sister is going on vacation, so it might have to be on hold until she returns. He told me today she shouldn't be going on vacation and he has no idea of where she is going, when she will be back, etc. She very much deserves a vacation and she is going. I talked to her and she has told him all of these things. She's going to write everything down. I'm hoping to bring up the move to assisted living when she returns again because she told me his legs are all swollen and red because he sits all day. Last week, he forgot to go to the door when I called to tell him I was coming to take him to the grocery store.

I'm sorry he's doing worse. I agree it's better to wait till she gets back. It sounds like he has a grasp of time sometimes, but not always/often. Hugs to you.
nikiz628 Paris has forgotten it's summer too! I've been wearing winter clothes, and the heat is still on!

He is very rattled that she is going on vacation. He said "retired people don't need vacations"
I did buy the insurance yesterday for the Crosby Meet and Greet. Very reasonable priced for the peace of mind so if he does pass at that time, I will get my money for the ticket back.

She just retired!!! Alas, your dad doesn't get to decide if/when his daughters go away.
I'm glad you were able to get the insurance.

She also just worked an entire school year and it doesn't matter if she is retired. She is allowed to go on vacation if she wants to.
He again brought up that retiring at 62 like he did was a big mistake. He asked me how old she was and I told him. She's 65. He said she didn't make his mistake.
He has more than passed the break even point for people who retire at 62 vs 65 (like it was 33 years ago). He has also received way more in social security benefits than he paid in during his working years.

I ended up being home all day today due to various reasons so I got a head start on some of my weekend chores and got one job done that I could only do on weekdays between 8-5. Two loads of laundry done Shite pile tamed / filing caught up
Dishwasher ran and emptied Pillowcases ironed Fridge cleaned of old food Two old propane tanks turned in and new propane tank filled. I don't know if it is state or federal law but propane tanks now expire and I two that were well past the expired date. The propane place that would take them back was only open M-F 8-5. So glad to have those gone and off my back deck. YNAB updated

Our weather has also been cool and damp, the poor tomato plants need heat and sun! Been in somewhat of a funk since returning from vacation and back to work, so not much progress around the house. Every time we go on vacation it makes me realize how much I am ready to retire. Had a fun family 80th birthday party for my Mother.
Handyman has decided he does not want to paint a bedroom, so that will get done by us whenever we get motivated. He did several other carpentry projects which he prefers.

Almost ready for the RE agent meeting this afternoon. I have a clipboard so I can make note of what needs to be done in each space. My goal is to 1) declutter/pack up non-essentials, 2) make necessary repairs, 3) stage for the photographer.
I would like to list 1 month from today but we'll see how it all goes.
I've also put together a home owner's guide which I am adding to daily. So far it has the paint colors, details on flooring, windows, appliances, local utilities, light fixtures, landscaping and bathroom fixtures. I'll also include owner's manuals for all the things that stay. I am hoping this will boost the value as it's a lot of helpful info. Plus, we're planning to sell with the fridge, dishwasher, oven, microwave, washer and dryer included in the sale. I am hoping that newish, working appliances + clean home + updated throughout will help it sell quickly.
This afternoon I've also got the chiropractor and going to dinner and a movie so it's a busy day for sure.

Dad doesn't believe that sister will do his laundry so I've been enlisted to talk to him. I'm going to write it down for him. He likes to look at things on paper.
DN3 is sure that Grandpa told him yes 3 times and says he should have had him sign a paper. He talked to him again today and Grandpa said no, that nobody will do his laundry. Sister talked to him and he said the same thing. She said she did tell him she could not do his laundry while she is gone but that doesn't mean she will not keep his laundry up. He does such a poor job on his laundry that it would be so much better if she did it for him.
Dad is now okay with sister's vacation and he has a written itinerary of where she plans to stay each night. He told DN3 the same thing he told me about her going on vacation yesterday and today he is okay with it.

I had ordered a wooden ring to make a round curtain for our bull's eye window with the extra curtain fabric. The one I ordered was too big, so I returned it yesterday. I'll order the right size once I've been reimbursed. I'll be out the postage but it was my mistake. I don't mind gardening in small spurts. However, we have so much yard and so much landscaping that we cannot keep up with it. We had to bring in a three-person crew to due a massive amount of pruning a few weeks ago just to get it back to a presentable level. It cost $1350 for the three people to work for eight hours.
Knee Deep in Water Chloe if you don't mind me asking, how big is your yard? And how often do you do that sort of cleanup? Do you do that every year? I'm continuing the garden cleanup. Have I mentioned that I hate gardening?! Plus I'm allergic. So I found a happy compromise. I hired our gardener for a half-day instead of the usual full day to do part of the garden. He's coming in 10 days. He'll come back again in the fall to prune, since it's too late.
As I sit here all scratched up having an allergy attack, I'm realizing that having 2 people for a full day every 2 years is exactly the same price as having 1 person for a full day (or 2 people for a half day) every year ... I think from now on I will plan for one day (or the equivalent) every spring and fall.

We have one-half of an acre. This is the first time we’ve had a crew come do this type of cleaning. We’ve had a row of cypress trees trimmed before, but that is a much different project than just general clean up. I’ll see what picture s I currently have.

Our garden is MUCH smaller ... 621 square meters, or 0.15 acres. But we have a lot of plants/bushes. Gardening is difficult for DH because even with gloves, his damaged hand starts bleeding after a couple of hours.
