NastyWoman The first items I offered her, she wasn't interested in. I was actually surprised she wants this one--or may want this one. I will do what you suggested as I continue going through the bedroom where I put mom's things. I won't be offering her or anyone the quilt mom's great grandma made. That is mine even though sister asked for it a couple of weeks after I brought it home. She kept changing her mind on what she wanted. I told her we had sorted and the quilt was one of the things I had chosen to keep for me. The only heirs I have are her kids so it will most likely stay in the family anyway and that is what is important to both of us. In her birthday card, I did ask to borrow mom's Family History book so that I can scan it. I asked her for that some time ago and she said she'd think about it. I told her scanning the information would be my main priority until it was done. There are actually 3 books and she did tell me she hasn't been keeping them current. I have scraps of paper of weddings, births, deaths, etc. since mom died that need to go in that book if she isn't going to keep it up. I didn't put the part about keeping it current in my note to her. I just asked if I could please scan it. It isn't like I want to keep it forever. I dread going through mom and dad's stuff when dad does die. If he is where he is now when that happens, we have 30 days to empty it. The sooner it's empty, the sooner the rent stops. The last time we tried to do it, she couldn't do it and we stopped. She said then she'd wait until dad is gone and she is forced to empty that apartment. At least everything mom wanted to move didn't fit in the apartment, which is why we went through a bunch of stuff 5 years ago. Now I am finding I no longer have the need to keep the stuff and wonder why I ever thought I did. I do have all but 5 or 6 of the photo albums here and she has said she is fine with that since I'm giving her a copy of the photos and told her she can have the originals for some of them.

It is not about the items themselves, it is about OUR emotional need, and there is nothing wrong with living your life in a way that meets your needs. In fact, I believe that is the way to live life to the fullest.
And that ladies and gentlemen is why I consider Marie Kondo a quack → no more than 20 books indeed. Who ever heard of that kind of baloney

It is about emotional needs and the photos bring me more pleasure than the items in most cases. There are some things I still can't part with but they aren't things that other people may find sentimental or interesting. I do and that's what matters.
I have more than 20 books and I have way too many CDs and vinyl albums. I can't let go of the vinyl and I can't let go of a lot of the CD collection.

Lunch with DH's friends, then dinner with DD and DS3.

I had not planned on doing laundry today but Lucy just puked on my comforter. It's now in the washing machine.
I'm doing with taking dad on his errands for today. The weather is horrible. It's windy, pouring rain and cold. I didn't call before I went because I was taking the item for my sister and her birthday card. Helped him get her birthday card ready. He picked it out and it doesn't have the word daughter on it. I tried to talk him out of that card but he liked it.
I tried to talk him out of going for groceries and said I would do it. He insisted he had to go, then kept talking about how bad the weather was.
He was totally out of the most important item he buys: m and m's. Said he had been out a couple of days.

48 party invitations sealed, stickers applied and mailed. I have 2 left but those are local guests.
DH did a bunch of laundry for me on Thursday. I was behind on linens.
I'm hoping to have an easier week next week and get a few things done before we go on vacation.

Not much cleaning/decluttering going on, here, at the house BUT I've made quite a bit of progress in the Student Govt office and on the computers. If anything, my house has gotten messier because it's nearing the end of the semester--finals are the first week of May--and I tend to just chillax if I'm not doing homework. I often feel like I live at the Student Govt office since it's nothing to spend two or three hours there and that's not including the classes that I attend each day. Today, I'll be there for a couple hours plus I have to go pick up the Thank You gifts for the various school agencies that we purchased. Monday, I'll have to swing over to Chick-fil-A to pick up the lunch that we're serving at the final SGA meeting that day at noon. On the 26th, we're having a "Health of the SGA and Student Orgs" and I'll be the one picking up the lunch for that meeting as well.

We were supposed to go camping this weekend, but Mom Nature has brought a freeze warning last night and tonight. Guess it's good so I'll stay home and recoup from this cold/whatever it is. I do want to uncover and arrange the lower deck furniture and get a few procrastination items completed. DH's aunt and uncle are coming to visit in a few weekends, and it will be nice to sit down there. With Mom Nature's approval of course! Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!

House has been cleaned for the cleaners who will be here in a couple of hours. Poor Lucy is not happy that her toys have all been put away. Cleaners just left. I was confused on the time they were coming. They had needed to change my week and I would have waited 6 weeks between cleanings. I thought that was too long, so they worked me in today. Now to put everything back in it's place, especially Lucy's toys. I didn't sleep well at all last night, so I took a two hour nap.

I've run the dishwasher this morning.
I plan to put the photos that I put away for the cleaning back today and scan some photos.

I need to get serious about this stuff. I really want to paint my living room, kitchen, upstairs hallway and my bedroom. I need to clean and refurnish one of the bedrooms downstairs. Then I want to get back into sewing. Before I can do all that my bedroom needs a good purge...sigh.

So just being curious - no judging here, but why do you put photos away when the cleaners come? That has never occurred to me and now I am thinking I may be missing something?

NastyWoman I think TheOtherMe is in the process of scanning a bunch of family photos. I'm assuming those are the ones she put away. I could be wrong of course.
This weekend (updated) - mark 3 mock exams I absolutely HAVE TO do them tomorrow.

I put the photos in frames that are sitting around the living room away when the cleaners come. Since they partly charge by time, it saves me money. I didn't word the sentence very well.

Ouch, debthaven! So sorry you're dealing with all of this. Well, there's a bit of progress to report. DH got a day off yesterday, and we FINALLY were able to go through, together, a couple of boxes that'd been in the living room for a long time, and got that stuff organized and put away. So, being optimistic, I grabbed 2 more boxes & got them into the living room to work on. Unfortunately, I chose 2 boxes that the movers must've thrown together (literally). It's going to take awhile to get through these, because they have a little bit of everything, so organizing & putting away won't be easy. Oh well, it's a process, right? I finally completed the paperwork for DS's appointment with a specialist that's scheduled for early next week. But, he's got another appointment with a different specialist later in the week, so I'm expecting more paperwork to arrive.

Photos scanned for today. Now to name the files.
By the end, the processing of the photos got very slow, so I managed to go through one of the drawers in the office and am tossing ancient software discs, business cards, etc.

I'm happy. Sister is going to let me scan mom's family history books. I'm so happy I wrote her a long note in her birthday card. Once I get those, they will take priority so I can get them back to her.
Today, I'm going to fill a trash bag with stuff I don't need that isn't worth donating. Some of it is artificial flowers that belonged to mom that fall apart every time I pick them up. Not offering those to sister.

My hopeful list for this weekend: Bag up donations pile in the closet.
Clean out under the kitchen sink.
Wash kitchen windows and curtains.
Sort one or two shelves in the linen closet.
Possibly clean out one flower bed if the rain stays away.
I did get some things accomplished. Otherwise, just maintaining. I did make arrangements for pickup for donation bags (two), I put two dog pad/crate beds in my trunk to deliver to an animal shelter this week. Also have a couple of items that Shelby has grown out of (puppy leashes, collars... extra treats that I garnered at a really almost free price w/coupons). Under maintenance, cleaned the furnace room. Cleaned and packed winter humifier and filters. Washed the floor. Still really need to continue with paper clutter and excess clothing. Great job everyone!

I just edited my above post to add laundry to the list of what I've done today. Now it says that my post is being quarantined until it can be reviewed by staff?! Does anyone know about this?
