You don't believe the Russians targeted all our social media sites with posts designed to help get Trump elected, or you don't believe that all the posts they put on our social media sites had any influence over how people voted?

OK then. Which Russian ad caused you to vote for Trump?

Well, speaking only for myself, there is nothing the Russians or anyone else could have done that would cause me to vote for the stupidest, lyingest, rashest, most volatile, most narcissistic, most immature, most dishonest, most corrupt candidate in this nation's history. But that's me. Not everyone applies the same type of intellectual rigor to their vote, and they fall for a lot of trash as a result. Hence, Trump.

OK then. Which Russian ad caused you to vote for Trump? You're a very concrete thinker, aren't you? Nobody thinks they were influenced by a single ad. However, there are such things as subtle subliminal persuasion and psychological manipulation.

OK then. Which Russian ad caused you to vote for Trump? We're not accusing Russia of hypnotizing Americans to make them vote for Trump against their will. The Russians were the shit stirrers in the last election, hoping to energize pro-Trump voters to go out and vote, and de-energize non Trump voters to make them think their vote was a waste of time.
For instance, a former work associate on my FB feed kept pasting outlandish 'news' stories prior to the last election. All of them fear mongered against immigrants. I remember one story in particular that talked about a government conspiracy to hide the fact that illegal immigrants were bringing some horrible, untreatable disease into the country, and that San Diego was overrun with people infected with this immigrant disease, but no one would talk about it. It was from some made up news source. Russians were dumping those kinds of 'news' stories in order to frighten Trump voters (a scare tactic Trump continues to try to use, since it worked so well in 2016).
What was especially annoying about my former work associate was that she had a baby with - you guessed it - a Hispanic immigrant. So not only was she falling for those obviously fake news stories, and helping to spread them around the internet, they were demonizing people like her baby's dad. I don't regret unfriending her.

The Russian caused Trump to win?? The Russian fake news was insidious. Everyone recognizes campaign ads and we all know each party is crafting an ad trying to spin the election one way or another. That's just politics.
What the Russians did was harder to detect. They hid their motives behind false fronts.
Consider some guy constantly getting messages about the dangerous immigrants, and pushy African Americans, and whack job liberals trying to seize his guns or make men marry men and women marry women. He might begin to feel like his country is spinning out of control, about to be seized and ruined by all these un-American threats, and without saying a word about Trump, they've inspired this person to vote for him, out of fear of what might happen if a dem wins.
It wasn't a call to vote for Trump. It was the constant drip, drip, drip of fake news stories detailing the horrors to come if Trump didn't get elected. It's important that everyone understand how the operated, because they aren't going to stop, given how successful they were in 2016.

Well, here is one of the messages I got,, “You’ve lost and don’t know what to do?” said one such post. “Just blame it on Russian hackers.” And the Russians are happy you got their message. The Russian influence campaign in 2016 was run by a St. Petersburg company called the Internet Research Agency, owned by a businessman, Yevgeny V. Prigozhin, who is a close ally of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia.
...
After the election, the report says, the Internet Research Agency put up some 70 posts on Facebook and Instagram that mocked the claims that Russia had interfered in the election.
“You’ve lost and don’t know what to do?” said one such post. “Just blame it on Russian hackers.”

OK drip, drip drip, which one or which group of the drips that caused you to vote for Trump?

So Bills, since the Russian use of the Media is so persuasive, Which ad caused you to vote for Trump? I don't participate in social media so was not exposed to their efforts to influence the election.

So, we have a whole bunch of weaked minded people that normally would have voted Democratic, cause of the Russia ads either did not vote or suddenly voted for Trump?? Really??

No, but perhaps a whole bunch of previously undecided people were so influenced. At any rate, being weak-willed or weak-minded does not belong to either side exclusively, but it seems almost a prerequisite for being a hard-core Trump supporter. No intelligent, observant viewer of society would miss the signs. Trump has been telling and showing us exactly who he is for forty years. He is easily the worst person ever elected, and it was clear beforehand what the truth would be. To anyone with their eyes open.

It is impossible to prove that one way or the other. However there are two good articles in the OP that I recommend reading that show that the Russians went to great lengths thinking it might be possible.

While I normally try to let grammar slips go, the typo in the header, implying that 'Elected Trump belongs to Russian', is too lovely and Freudian to ignore.

OK then. Which Russian ad caused you to vote for Trump? You're a very concrete thinker, aren't you? Nobody thinks they were influenced by a single ad. However, there are such things as subtle subliminal persuasion and psychological manipulation. in addition, part of the campaign was misinformation directed at DEMOCRATS, which may have caused some voters to stay home. in other words, one could just as easily ask "what messages caused you not to vote?".

Your tell me that the Russian Media plants are so much more convincing than the absolute hate filled, only semi truthful, or out and out lying political ads. no. we are not telling you that. we are telling you that in an election decided by approximately 100k voters, that this campaign might have been the deciding factor. if you can't get your head around that idea, there is really no point in discussing it any further.

However there are two good articles in the OP that I recommend reading that show that the Russians went to great lengths thinking it might be possible. Your suggestion continues to fall on deaf ears. If you are thinking that the suggestion is aimed at only one person, I would agree. But it is not. I see one thing that appears to happen based on responses is that people assume that the interpretation of articles presented by a poster have some connection to the linked article and don't go to the article itself. As is too frequently the case, there is no connection between this thread title and the articles linked. I always assume that there are "others" who read what is posted. It is to them that I make the suggestion to read the linked articles.
